Thread: Experiment tonight on rifleman backup weapon, at once sad commentary and help for non-masters
So my previous oh **edit** I'm being chased by melee mobs tactic was the regular swap to spray and fire warningshot/peace until they run a little. Unfortunately this doesn't work all that well because you still suffer that mind-numbingly stupid melee penalty, and your accuracy is not too fantastic either. I had a **edit** Meatlump Oaf hit me for 900+ through composite with a gaffi once because I was carrying a spraystick. So I went to my shop and made the most reviled pistol of all time, the D18.
It works really really well.
The D18 I whipped up had the following stats, for those of you interested in that stuff: 47-126, speed 1.4, 11/26/11 ham, and the accuracy mods (the key here) -5 @ 0m, +33 @ 15m (which is typical running away range), -60 @ 64m. By contrast, spraystick: -20 @ 0m, -3 @ 30m, -60 @ 64m, 16-165 2.0 13/41/41. The reason I took a D18 is because I currently have no pistol boxes (working from master ws into master rifleman, no points/time for master marks until it's time to give up the craft entirely), and I also gave up master artisan so my CDEFs wouldn't be quite top shelf. If you're a master marks or even have a little bit of pistol scout is probably the best sidearm choice if you're just concerned with warning stuff off for speed/low ham, depending on the quality of resources on your server.
Even with the fact that I have no pistol speed mods, the D18 fired almost as fast as the spray, I didn't get mauled by baby animals, and it was far far more accurate than the spray in CQC, so I didn't wind up being hit as much in the first place. It's a sad commentary on the state of the rifleman when novice marksman with a d18 > 8 box rifleman with a spraystick for getting away. However, until such time as someone wakes up about the problems of the rifleman (note: not MASTER RIFLEMAN, but RIFLEMAN), it can be a life and sanity saver for those of us still struggling up the tree. Hope this helps bandaid the problem for some of you.
Agreed, I use a non certed, (well I'm heading for master marks now but it was uncerted) sliced for speed scout pistol, it was FAR better in my eyes than a spraystick/CDEF rifle for using warning shot on things hitting you.
If you're fighting some of the harder mobs (read 2 hit killers) then even master won't save you from the greatfeature that is warp death.
