Thread: Rifleman should be able to target ANY pool
I am a 1-1-0-1 rifleman and a 3-3-2-3 ch. For a long time I found hunting with my pets to be very, very slow. Rifles fire very slowly, without headshot we don't do spectacular damage, and we have serious accuracy problems inside of about, oh, 60 meters.
A few days ago I picked up a pistol for the first time.
Oh. My. Goodness. What a difference. Suddenly fights were going so much faster it was hard to believe. Once I was able to use a scout blaster, I was killing mobs and NPCs 2x as fast as before due to the ability to help my pets pound down the mob's health bar.
This got me thinking. The whole point of using a rifle is that it is a long-range, accurate weapon. Why then are we limited to specials that only hit the mind pool? It makes very little sense that a rifleman who can take someone's head from their shoulders at >coff, coff< long range couldn't also hit them in the chest, or the arm/leg.
This might possibly overpower us, I suppose, but after doing 600-800 damage every ~2 seconds with my FWG5 and body shot 2 I don't see how, really. I would love to be able to pull my rifle back out and help my pets chew things up, but unless we get the ability to target the health pool specifically I'm afraid I will be sticking with the pistol for the majority of my hunting and breaking out my rifle when on group hunts or when fighting those poor, pitiful snorbals.
Anyone else think the masters of long-range accuracy should be able to shoot people elsewhere besides just the head?
Gallatin, who will be a master rifleman someday, surely
but then again, if we get body shots, shouldn't carbineers get headshot too?
maybe more specific pet attack commands is what is needed... "attack head," "attack body," etc.
Hey, got me thinking maybe there are pets that target mind pools... off to the CH board to post!

I thought of something like this. If you were a Master Marksman/Elite Weapon (Rifle, Pistol or Carbine) you should get the level 1 target shot with your elite weapon. For example, a Master Marksman/Rifleman could use BodyShot1 and LegShot1 with the rifle. An analogous system could be used for Brawlers as well.
I think the fundamental problem with the game is the splitting of the HAM attacks. Three weapons, three stat bars and one weapon to each stat looks good on paper. In gameplay, it clearly fails. If a Rifleman, a Pitoleer and a Carbineer attack a red con, they are not fighting as a group. They are soloing while standing next to each other.
