Thread: Any Reason to war Armor?
Holding a rifle while wearing armor will only destroy your armor faster in melee, and unless you are being attacked by more than a few mobs, I haven't found it terribly useful.
But then, there are so many things in this game still that I don't know about.
armor is god in pvp..
i analyzed my combat logs after a few pvp encounters and both times i was up against 2-3 people at the same time... i was on mouns gold...
my armor was STOPPING EVERY SINGLE shot for a minimum of 75% up to 90 %... crazy but true...
hell at one point i was up against two guys and i had messed up my toolbar.. so in the middle of combat i open my macro list and looked for it and then dragged it into the toolbar while ignoring the two for 6 seconds... my ham was going nowhere ![]()
this is with a full suit minus helmet of all encum sliced armor with a protection of 45-50 % across the peices
with armor on my focus is stil 290 and willpower 690... thats pretty high in my opinion considering its a fullsuit
First time posting on this board, but since it concerns both of my professions ... ![]()
If you're out hunting solo using conceal shot and rarely, if ever, getting attacked, you don't need to be wearing armor, plain and simple. You're not using it most of the time, and it slows your regen rate and makes those special shots take more of your mind. That being said, however ...
Sometimes those mobs love to warp on top of you (don't we all know it), and sometimes you just get aggro'd. I heartily suggest having a suit of armor ready for you to put on at the push of a button with a macro. Now, as for what type of armor you need ...
As with most everything in this game, the type of armor you want depends on your playstyle and what you are hunting. What works for me may not work as well for you, and vice-versa. Here are a few suggestions, though:
- Mabari Armor -- That's right, the novice armorsmith item is perfect for the solo creature hunting rifleman. Ask your armorsmith to experiment on the efficiency so as to boost the kinetic protection. You should be able to get it somewhere between 15-25% kinetic. Mabari is also extremely light (mind encumbrance on a Mabari helmet is usually 60-70). It does have a few drawbacks, however -- no arm/bicep protection (Chitin biceps work well with it) and no energy protection (vulnerable to NPCs andbasically useless in PvP).
- Ubese Armor (sans helmet) -- Good kinetic protection (30-35% for standard non-layered) as well as protection against energy attacks (good against NPCs). Generally lighter than comparable chitin armor, the Ubese helmet is awfully harsh on the mind encumbrance, so I'd use another type of helmet. Ubese is also layerable, so you can get extra protection with a minor encumbrance penalty. A heat-layered Ubese suit is probably the best all-around suit you could ask for, though.
I wear a heat-layered Ubese suit with an energy-layered Tantel helmet. Unsliced, this has a total encumbrance of 310/380/330, and I would have died a lot more without it. - Voritor Hide/Bone Armor -- What's this? Go to Dantooine and kill a ton of voritors (lizard things that apparently have no harvestable resources). Loot them. About 15% of them drop Voritor Hide segments which are essentially kinetic-layered bone segments. This is the lightest armor in the game, and has an AR1 protection against the two most commonly encountered damage types in the game. Unfortunately, the kinetic protection is locked at about 5% (there is a bug with layers), but there are plenty of benefits to it. If you have this, you can wear it without even thinking about encumbrance.
- Personal Shield Generator -- stackable over your armor, wearable by wookiees, no encumbrance, high energy protection, etc. Fragile, though, so only use them in emergencies. Again, I would die a lot more without these.
That's about it from my end. I don't think I'd recommend anything other than these to the average rifleman who's not engaged in daily pitched PvP battles (you may well be best off going with composite there). Don't bother with Chitin unless you plan to switch over to a melee or pistol when mobs get close. Don't bother with padded, either (I don't recommend it for anyone).
Silly riflemen, armor is just for looks. Sure sure other classes say it's great. But don't listen to them, the devs have a different plan in store for us.
It generally takes no more than 2 hits to take a rifleman out from any creature with over 5k HAM. Armor or not. If they teleport, don't bother switching/taking off weapons, you're already dead.
I survived a hit from a Canyon Krayt Dragon yesterday.Armor is buff.
Leave the helmet off, after using mind up for specials you don't have enough left to protect anyways.
If you find that you're often dying before running out of mind, armor is a good idea (the particular suit is debatable).
If you find that you run out of mind before dying, armor is not a good idea.
It's hard to recommend armor (even in PvP) to master riflemen.
