I have developed what I believe is the best possible Sniper chara with what SOE has given us. In my opinion you need three things to make an effective PvP sniper in SWG.These will not make you an all powerful sniping god. Snipers deeds tend to go unnoticed by his fellow faction members so becoming a sniper won't make you a Hero to your faction. It will however make you hated by your enemies. These are Skills , Tactics and Frame of Mind . Remember this is just my opinion , what works for me may not work for you .

SKILLS - Master Rifle / Medic with exploration 4 are A must . This leaves you with 38 points to spend . I recommend Novice Doctor with Adv. wound treatment an expert doc. med. crafting . This gives you the ability to Buff yourself and Cure desease / poison . Also you can make your own medical supplies . This is important sinec no supplier is 100% reliable . Any remaining points can be spent how ever you wish. If needed you can drop explore 4 to free up 5 points , But maintain explore 3 for the terrain negotiation bonus .

TACTICS - Snipers are not meant to fight toe to toe with other classes . If you do ......You lose . What you need to do is develope some hit and run tactics that work for you.Try stacking your mindshots and then falling back . If necessary heal then head back to around 55m to 60m to finish off your target .When possible try firing from an elevated position or have one nearby that you can run to. With +40 terrain negotiation you can gain needed space on any persurers. Have a few escape routes that you know by heart. Knowledge of your terrain will give you an advantage in slipping away or stalking a target. After a succesful engament ( you live) retreat to a predeignated safe area. A small house is better than any camp . At 5k or so you can place near the area you will be sniping an stock with any essentall supplies . If your safe area is compromised simply pick up an move to another spot.

MINDSET - Remember that this is A war . Your job is to strike at your enemy when he is least expecting it. Noone is safe from your attack . That healer in the med center is healing the player who will deliver your DeathBlow . Kill your enemy whenever and where ever you find them. Some will say this is not an honorable way to fight . well snipers have never been concideredto be honorable soldiers . We hide in the shadows an attack are enemy without warning only to fade back into the shadows from whence we came.

I have played on Lowca server since day 1. I tend to solo 99 % of the time so I remain unknown to my fellow rebels . If any imperials I have fought will be honest they will tell you If I win I simply DB an move on. If I lose I do not respond to any trash , just add you to my ignore list . This system works very well for me but you may need to adjust it to fit your needs. Feel free to add anything constructive to this post . But plz lets keep this respectful.I intended this post to be an exchange of knowledge not a place where Board Heros can flame others.

Sadly, this game was not designed for this midset. Rifleman is not sniper in any way. Here are 3 reasons.

1. Sniping is based on not being seen, this isn't going to happen as you are a red dot on the enemies radar and he can simply look in your direction and hit the tab key.

2. Sniping is based on range. In this game, pistols and rifles have the same range and it's extremely short for a rifle. It obviously couldn't be as long ranged as a real rifle due to things needing to be close enough to load. But I'm 100% sure things could be changed in such a way that overts would load at 140m range and allow rifle to have 128 range. THIS would actually giverifle an advantage at range, not hitting a mere 5% more of the times than a pistol at 60m.

3. Sniping is based on one shot kills and a sometimes second shot for good measure before they hit the ground. This would simply make the game less fun if the fight was over before it started, which is why the T21 was nerfed in less than a day after being fixed. It does still need a little fixing, at least lowering the HAM costs to use specials with it if nothing else. Now devs did something on this topic that completely contradicts themselves. They nerfed the T21 because it could hit for 3k reliably with high level specials. But yet they give heavy weapons the ability to hit for 6k to 12k fairly easily with lower level specials.

Overall the rifle as it is is simply a pistol with a long barrel that magically makes your body weak and take extra damage from melee attacks.

/agree slayerD how we take more dmg then any other class is beyond me....and the devs lied when they said we were the only class to cause mind dmg.... eyeshot from Bounty hunter anyone???(which costs ACTION to use) oh and i hope they add in mind stim packs that would make being a rifleman worth causing that mind dmg.... the devs have everythng **edit**ed up

Not sure if the whole color change would help much. Guess what I do when I'm in a crowded area and I'm overt. I spin around hitting tab since most the imps I fight are all blue dots anyway.

im referring to when your by yourself near a city and you want to snipe....most overts will NOT hit tab if they dont see any red dots on the radar.

so basically this is how the scenario would go.... you approach bestine..... you find a nice hill to lay on watching a particular part of the city..say the shuttleport...that imperial overt just buys a ticket and is waiting by the droid... when BLAM!! a energy beam slams into his head causing him to to bleed..blam anotehr shot nearly destroys his mind bar...he runs for cover only to bleed on the way to hide..../snipershot

Nah, I think that would lead to much bitching similar to revenge TEF just not as bad. Would better to do something that makes pure sense and 100% goes along with rifle. Longer range. This could not be disputed, there's nothing that could be said against it, it makes 100% pure sense. If someone whined that a rifle could shoot further than a pistol cuz he got killed by a rifle people would just laugh at them. As it should be.

I do just fine with this system . And yes on occasion I do get 1shot kills . I also have no problem sneaking up on Imps. A real life sniper is not invisable . They can be seen an often are before they get to even fire A single shot . Case in point - A sniper an his spotter from Combat Applications Group (Delta Force) where spotted by A young girl in the first gulf war (Desert Storm) and had to be evacuated . As I stated you must use the terrain around you for concealment . I came up with a system to be an effective sniper with what SOE has given us . It seems to me that some people will not be satisfied until they are given the PvP god Mode .

And yes there are ways to hide in game.Try standing inside A faction Base if you are hunting TEFers . A simple fix would be If A sniper stays in the same spot for a certain period of time his signature would fade from the map .

I wanted this post to be A helpful tool where snipers could exchange info. I do not care about what we need to make us PvP gods , I care about any info that will help all snipers develope their own system for PvP. If you dont think this one works go to Bestine (Lowca) and ask a few imperials.
