Thread: Questions from someone going Ranger/Rifleman

Well, I picked this template before reading the boards. From what I've read in the Ranger board, it's not as deadly as I thought it'd be. I'm really doing it as an experiment- my main character is a non-combat MBE/Merchant, and I'm wondering if an alt would help business since meat's so difficult to obtain. I figure I'd make a Ranger/Rifleman on another server before paying for an alt though.

People have been talking about DXR6's. I didn't see any certification for this weapon in the Rifleman tree. I haven't seen any of those rifles either. Could someone hook me up with a quick explanation of what they are and what the typical stats are?

I was hoping that between camo and cover I'd never be seen. I was going to climb the Concealment tree first so I could take out everything without being seen to finish up Rifleman. However, it seems that everyone recommends other trees first. Did I make a bad assumption?

Although it will be a while until I get there, once I'm MR/MRM, what do I do with the other 18 skill points? Ranged support didn't seem particularly useful, but picking up another basic profession would cost me 15 of my 18. Should I just take medic? Or are there advantages to pistols or carbines?

Thanks for your help guys. Seems like a pretty friendly board over here (Rangers **edit** a lot, and BE's are rather serious-minded ).

This is a loot schematic from the Geo caves. Not sure exactly what goes into making it, but there are some other Geo loot items that will need to be gathered for a WS to make one. The DXR-6b Disruptor is an AP2 Acid damage weapon. They usually have great accuracy at ideal range.

Only get Concealment I. Then get the rest of the Rifleman tree prior to finishing off the Concealment branch. There are no specials after ConcealShot in this tree and the only other bonuses it gives is Sneak (able to move while using TakeCover) and ranged damage mitigation. You'll be better off going up Accuracy and Counter-Sniping prior to finishing off Concealment. Whenever you have the Combat XP use it on Rifle Abilities to increase speed.

I would suggest Medic. That would help out the most. Or you can go to Ranged Support III for WarningShot. This will help you drive off MOB's that get to close if you want. But Medic is probably the best choice.

Here is a link to a revised FAQ that may help some.

To make the DXR-6b all you need besides the schematic is 2 identical poewr cubes from the cave. Yellow is the best since it increases damage. All the other parts can be crafted.

One more thing. I've mastered both rifleman and ranger. They are both fun at master but the grind's to get there suck if you aren't taking your time. You may want to consider this before doing the grind twice.

I actually didn't use conceal shot much during my first time through Rifleman, and still haven't with my alt going up rifleman/BE right now...should I have? That's subjective, there are cases when it would have made things a bit easier, but I have armor and buffs...I wasn't worried. With my alt, I didn't have the benefit of 300k combat exp to go 0/0/0/3 right when I made novice, so this grind is a little slower than what it took me with my main character(I'm grinding sampling at the same time, so it's even slower at the moment). Idid the Sniping tree first for the accuracy and headshot 3, followed by counter sniping and then concealment.

As Waste said, medic is a good way to go. Personally, I won't make a combat character without novice medic. It comes inhandy in a tight spot.
