Thread: what would you guys think about take cover making you invisible to other players if..
if moving (crawling or getting up) made you visible, and attacking also made you visible.
makes sense to me.
Take cover should:
Give a very good defensive bonus.
Give a mediocre accuracy bonus.
And would be nice if it has some kind of HAM usage reduction while firing from it. Maybe a focus increase. +500 or something.
Cover has to be at least useful since we have 2 tree that are only related to it for the most part.
I agree with Zarl0k, take cover SHOULD have some more tangible benefit than it does now... unfortunately, it's never going to make us invisible to other players.
One of the reasons for the radar is that the devs knew that the uber-l33t guys would hack the data stream and get that position info anyway... so rather than let them have an unfair advantage, they let everyone have the radar. If they made us invisible to players, it wouldn't stop the uber-l33t guys, just the regular, honest, gamer.
NPCs, mind you, are another issue entirely and they should not be able to instantly spot a sniper Under Cover. Currently Take Cover gives you, what, ONE more shot against your foe.... and if there are social allies near the target, they will -instantly- rush to attack you as soon as you start your first attack.
where'd you get the idea that it's technologically impossible for players to be invisible without being easily exploited?
in daoc, there's invisibility (stealth) and it's hack proof. sure, there's RADARS that can be used, but they don't show stealthed players because stealthed players don't have any data sent from the server regarding their whereabouts while they are stealthed. in that game stealth is 100% foolproof.
honestly I dont see the problem. it would only work while stationary and not attacking. it could give rifleman the initiative they need to have some kind of advantage in pvp or just be a fun toy. in any case I don't see how this idea is in any way unreasonable. how is getting the iniatative from a good firing position more unreasonable than knocking someone down repeatedly until they are dead, or multiple ATST pets each one able to decimate dozens of rebel playersby itself?
Actually, programs like odins eye and that other one (excaliber I believe) did show invis people. The radar is my biggest problem with this game. In daoc and everquest (rallos) ambushing other players was an everyday occurence and it made the game exciting. Nobody looks over their shoulders in this game because they see the red dot 200 meters away giving them more then enough time to prepare. If they took the radar out alltogether I would be happy.
honestly, how hard would it be to scan for hackers. then delete the character and close the account if they're caught? I'd be willing to live with the few worthless cheaters that made it through. or howabout the data coming from the invis rifleman is randomly skewed? it could be skewed to make the character appear, at random, to be 100-200m away from where he really is (I mean only for the data stream the cheaters are trying to use) for the rest of us normal people, they're just not there on the radar.
As long as we're underocover (I think we should be able to move and stay invisible as long as we are undercover and have the sneak skill) we should be invisible until our first shot. Then we can't attempt to take cover again for 60 seconds. (just like what they with mask scent)
This would only be useful in a small number of situation in PvP but it is so logical for the entire concept behind sniping. It's bad enough a T-21 can't shoot any furhter than a pistol.

daoc did stealthing characters just fine. It was the combat game balance that they couldnt figure out. The radar just makes PvP a joke. Hey look, theres a little red dot on the other side of this building, must be an imp....and you know this HOW AGAIN?!?!!! Hows about this, make radar a LOS (line of sight) thing and give characters a chance of spotting someone whos behind them thru a skill (like something in the ranger/scouting lines). Something like an awareness skill. This all seeing uber radar of god that everyone has takes out alot of tactics to playing and forces people to do crap like zerging because an ambush isnt going to work when you see a clump of red dots hiding behind a building.

When the DEV's hear about a RADAR tool in the wild they can also scan for it on game startup. If its there your under investigation... if its proven there, your banned. This wont stop people with more sofisticated setups, but your average |33t player would be stopped.
Where there is a will there is a way.

nope.
try and sound know it all all you want, but I played DAOC for over a year, hardcore. there were a number of radar progs but none of them ever showed stealthed players. ever. it's not possible because the server doesn't send any info to yoru computer about a player who is stealthed.
