Hi,
My original plan for my character was to get him to Master Rifleman. However it didn't take me long to realize that anything closing to melee distance swiftly beat the crap out of me. So I took on Brawler 0/0/4/0 and finally hit Novice Swordsman around the same time I hit Novice Rifleman. Currently I'm loving this combination, using heatshots/mindbleeds when initiating a fight against mobs, and finishing them off with a headhit from the sword when they come close. But the damage I do isn't very high, currently around 800 max with a sword move (2H Cleaver) and about 1500 max with a rifle move (Laser Rifle).
However since I'm also training up my Armorsmith skills (which I definately want to master) I'll soon run out of points to put into these fighter classes, and I don't know how to continue. Should I stay with Novice Swordsman and Novice Rifleman and probably be able to complete only one out of the 4 trees in both classes (and not being able to hit very hard on both), or should I drop Swordsman completely and go to Master Rifleman (and gain access to the high-end damage moves)?
Might help if I mentioned that I'm mainly fighting mobs, not players.

I would say Master Rifleman. Its not only the high-end damage moves you want, its the speed.
At Master Rifleman you wont need Swordsman, if the mob doesn't warp it wont make it to melee range.
Also if you one day change your mind and decide to do some PvP then you are prolly the worst PvP'er with only Novice Rifleman and prolly one of the best with Master Rifleman (As long as you don't kill your self).
Gl with your choice mate.

You must be fighting wrong. With a little muon gold and a little technique I can solo mountain squill and tusken raiders. BTW I use t21 as my first shot I usualy do about 2k-6k dmg and by the time the thing notices me its dead.

" You must be fighting wrong."
Could be it
I haven't used any spices yet, but then again I've only been playing this game for like two weeks.

And for those of you looking at my registration date, yes I signed up here before I played the game because I had to buy a new graphics card first....

"Its not only the high-end damage moves you want, its the speed."
I said I had enough points left over for one out of the 4 paths on the Rifleman tree. If I took the "Special Abilities" path that would grant me +20 melee defense and +40 rifle speed, taking care of the speed problem I believe. Are the other three paths (and the actual master skill) worth losing my melee weapon over?

There is a world of difference from 4,4,4,4 to Master. And then just having the right brance and thinking the speed is enough. Hehe.. the profession just doesn't make sens if not mastered.
with x,x,x,4 you might fire every 5-6 second with flushing2 maybe even less. At master you'll fire every 2 second and if master marksman too you'll fire every 1 second.

If you play this game because of combat, master a combat profession. You can't even compare10 novice combat professions with a single mastered one.

I worked up to Novice Swordsman until I got a pet that could tank what I was fighting, then started dropping the melee boxes.

Rifleman only shine when they reached Master.
Strafe2 is a must have for all Rifleman and you can only get that after you become Master.
I used less Mind then HS3 and did far more dmg then HS3. Added to that, its dmg is AoE.
