I've been a rifleman for several months and I love the profession. Gonna be a Rifleman post-CU; its the one profession I've had and never dropped. (And I've had alot.) But one thing has always bothered me; and that was that people could hit targets from the same range as I could with pistols, carbines and heavy weapons...AND for just as much damage if not more. As I understand from both what the devs/correspondants have said and common sense, rifles should outrange everything in the game in both distance, and raw seething power.
But the latest weapon tweak on the blue frogs in TC5 really disturbed me. All the pistols were brought in line with the CU, they were made weaker and had less DPS than some of the weakest rifles did. Then I read that DE-10's didnt get set with the rest of the pistols, and in fact got buffed! 230-700 damage!!! We have high-end rifles that wont do that much damage!
As the post-CU's "nukers" as the devs put it, arent we supposed to have the highest level of unbridled stopping power? Or when the CU hits are people still going to solo ancient Krayts with a f**king DE-10?
"Oh but its a loot pistol from the DWB. It should be l337!"
Rare or not, pistols are pistols. They are low-power weapons for self-defense. I am going to be pissed off to no end if post-CU pistoleers are still running around like schoolyard children with geos and DE-10's killing everything in sight without any penalty.
Is it set in stone that their maximum range is 35m? Do we know whether or not they'll allow pre-CU geos and DE's to still retain 'kill all' status? It bothers me to have to contend with pistoleers for damage output as it is. Post-CU I want Rifleman to take their rightful place as the heaviest hitting ranged combatants in SWG. Then carbines, and then pistols can have whatever's left. Pistols should always be the table scraps of the ranged combat buffet.
No matter what happens, I'm sticking with Rifleman to the end!
Oh, and does anyone know where the Proton Rifle, and IL-9 rifles are going? God, I want that IL-9!!

well, for the defense of the DE-10, there are some pretty powerfull handcannons out there in real life, just think of the DE-10 as the magnum, and well, personally, id take a T21 over a DE-10 any day

Hasn't already been stated that the weapons on the frogs aren't what they will be when the CU hits live? Mostof the weapons do the same dmg really at the moment, but just for testing purposes. Don't worry, it'll get toned down when it hits live...

The real difference lies in the specials we get - the damage output of a high-end rifle in the right hands will be far greater than that of a high-end pisstol in skilled hands, because of the multiplying effect of our specials. Pistoleers gain benefits in return through higher defensive ratings and additional opponent-affecting attacks.
