ok, weapons certs are a joke. As a master rifleman I should be able wo use any rifle type weapon and use it better than anyone else. BUT anyone should be able to use them, anyone should be able to pick up a rifle and fire it, a musician with no other skills should be ablt to pick up my T21 and pull the trigger. He should get knocked flat on his ass when he does but he should be able to use it. The way these certs are going, as with armor is just wrong. This method wil not create variation, it might 'force' it, but thats hardly what we want, is it?
If I pick up a pistol as a master rifleman I would expect to be able to shoot it reasonably well, not as well as a master pistoleer by any means, but I would expect to be able to use it and not make a fool of myself. If I picked up a flamer thrower I would expect to find it much harder to use and expect to be much less able to use it with any positive effect and the risk of hurting myself would be higher. This is really all pretty common sense, isnt it? If I picked up a sword I would have no doubt that I would probably cut myself before I managed to cut anyone else, but I would still be able to kill someone I think. Allowing anyone to use any weapon ADDs hugely to the game, it creates many more options for fun and roleplay as well. In much the same way with armor, I should be able to wear any armor I want, but I would expect there to be effectiveness penanlties (rendering some of it useless) to me if I was not trained in its use.
I know SOE wont go changing this, I dont care, they are wrong! This game with CURB is on the edge of survival (and anyone who does not see that really needs to stop working for SOE
) it can survive, CURB will be a hopeles mess at first (hey, deal with it), what will make CURB come thru the other side is avoidng what has happened so far, namely, kneejerk fixes/changes/nerfs based on the whiners and quitters. I personally see the whole thing as a huge dumbing down and fundamentally a failure to address the single point its was designed to address (balance), its also imo a pretty pathetic showing for what should be a hell of a lot of time. But this is what we get. Lets at least make it fun, lets not forget that this game is NOT only combat (and this is not just a combat upgrade as it effects non combat professions as much if not more and mostly adversely). I dont want to run around owning everyone, nor do I want to get owned whenever I choose to fight. If someone wants an I win button, go play a single player game!
Let me use a pistol (hell add a cert to rifleman, add a rifle cert to pistoleer, etc, if you have to choose the easy 'cant code to save my job' route) let me play a role in a balanced game - its all I want and all Ive wanted for 18 months
