Hey all,

I don't think I've posted to this forum before, but I read it regularly. I'm a Zabraak Ranger & Rifleman for those of you that don't know me.

Anyways, I started a thread on the Ranger forums yesterday about Ranger's being singled out by spawned creatures and aggroing them more frequently than players of other professions. Some of the responses I received claim the problem was with rileman getting singled out, not rangers.

Here is the thread:

So, has anybody noticed that when you're grouped with a bunch of players of various professions, and everybody is attacking the same creature, that when a new creature spawns it more often than not will aggro you (from a distance) instead of the other players it spawn right next to?

It's quite frustrating given the 2.5x melee damage...

Thanks,

It's true. Critters tend to attack those who are giving it the most damage, and since we have strong shots (our1800 every5 sec compaired to the 300dmg every .5 sec of someone else), we tend to get singled out.

I don't use specials very much in groups...but yes...when I do use specials to try and keep one of my buddies from being killed I tend to get aggroed by the a couple of beasties...I'm just glad I've got good pistol buddies to keep them off me with a few quick warning shots

What I don't understand is why it ignores pistoleers and comes after us (when we've seen in other threads on this forum that some pistols far outweigh the dps that any rifle can do). It also doesn't explain why the spawn will ignore BH's or Commando's. Maybe the spawnalso considers who they can hit the hardest...with the +2.5x damage modifier against melee hits we're easy targets...I dunno, but it seems quite unfair at the moment. I think our new Rifle correspondent (when he/she's chosen) should bring this one up to the devs for review.

Thanks,

Hm... I'm no longer a rifleman, but I still glance at the boards every so often.

Last night I was hunting on Dathomir with about 4 other people and about 3 or so pets. I was the only Commando in the group. Everyone else was pistol or carbine. Almost every spawn came after me. I was incapped so many times and I died once or twice.

So... I dealt the most damage AND had a 2.5 melee penalty. Hehe. Yum.

In the commando's defense... things do like to eat us... or at least me. Maybe I just seem helpless with Master Image Designer above my head.

Ah well.

Shoto, it isn't damage per second. We loose in that, definetly. It's damage per shot that gets us aggroed. Commandos suffer the same aggro problem, and the same 2.5x dmg problem.

Hrm, thats strange, in my groups they always seem to aggro the weakest person...

I always thought the creatures aggro on the 1st to fire upon them.

That's why I always fire last, if I'm in a group, unless it's an easy kill. If they aggro me, I'm unable to help the group to kill the animal in anyway.

I think they generally aggo me because my AE shots hit the lair as well as the creatures.

I was with a large group of people on Dantooine Sunday, and a voritor lizard attacked the group. I was farthest away and did not attack first. The lizard ran into the midst of the group probably about 40m - 50m ahead of me. Everybody was shooting. I started shooting, and after a few shots, the lizard decided he wanted a tasty rifleman snack and charged right through everyone else, including at least one commando, and came right at me.

Fortunately, I was able to switch to pistol before he got to me and he had been pounded enough by everyone at that point that he was not on me for very long and I survived, but it was hilarious enough that others commented on it.

I frequently run with a commando and even if I am not the one to initiate the combat, it happens frequently. It is a bit of a running joke with us because we have even had it where he has shot something without warning me and the creature decides it wants to come stomp on me despite the fact that I had not even fired a shot and was, in fact, standing there minding my own business. I should probably be mad, but it is just too funny.

I find that using Concealshot while in group situations like that lessens the chance they will single me out. I was not using it on Sunday and do not typicallyuse it in small groups so that we all share the risk. But in a large group, it often prevents that kind of odd behavior.

I am Rifleman 2322/Ranger 1030 if that helps.
