I just love it when the war between us and pistoleers surge up every-so-often because even though it shows how little we know about their specials, it shows how little they know about our entire weapon. Every rifleman knows a good deal about pistols thanks to our dependence on them to not die vs gorgs.
You can't stand rifles because you only have Rifles IV. You have to get a lot higher to be any good with one.

If you are going that route (no pets, solo) you have a long grind. I did it too, at first because I was ignorant of pets and didnt like the dis-organinzation of most groups, but after a while it became a matter of pride. And you know what? You actually learn to feel comfortable doing it! Instead of walking upto a nest of dewbacks ormountain squill and thinking "Oh crap, I'm gonna die now", you walk up (or crawl up) thinking "I know how to do this, and if I don't screw it up myself, these guys are MINE!". Cool feeling, dude! Good luck... you have my admiration.
Wayne,
Thanx for the encouragement. Haven't used any critter pets yet. I do have a droid I group with for the XP bonus. I try to keep him out of combat. Droids don't last long. I've found some decent ways to earn XP. I'm sitting on 580k Rifle XP right now. Have to free up some skill points. But I'm not just grinding away at XP. I'm trying to go out and have fun, run my survey business, and do some Arch stuff on the side. So I'll probably hit Master at the end of next month (casual player). I know exactly what you are talking about on approaching the target. I think the same thing when I go after Pikets (one of my favorite targets). ![]()

yep, I am another of those poor unfortunate suckers who solo without pets. I can take on most anything (and dont have an AoE shot yet either, working on it though ). I have not once thought about getting a pet, and I will probably never use a pet on my entire road to Master Rifleman. Oh and BTW, I'mmore thanhalfway there, point of no return!
I didn't use a pet for a long time. Solo'd mostly against Rontos on Tatooine until they nerfed them by putting in two bulls for every female (she's probably not all that happy with the change either)
Lately I use my gurreck because it is faster than not using him. But he gets incapped a lot and I end up finishing off the lair without him. Assuming he doesn't catch a bleed shot then he jumps up and goes and aggros someone behind my back.

How far along are you in rifleman?
You may already have great things to hunt, I dont know.
But here is how I finished off rifleman on Tatooine.
About the second level of rifleman boxes you start getting Mountain Squill missions from the mission terms. Sometimes they are hard to find... have to go through 20 screens literally. If you can survive in Anchorhead (if you're not overt imp) then these missions aremore common than in Bestine where I hunted (I am covert reb). These missions gave me most of the last boxes of rifleman (without pets).
Group with a probot if you have one, then leave it in town and go hunt solo.
-- Each lair spawns the typical THREE times (original, at first hit, at 65% health)
-- Each spawn is USUALLY one mountain squill and one regular squill
-- Each mountain squill is worth 4500+ if you are grouped with a probot, else 3300+
-- Each regular squill is maybe only 1000 or so... don't remember
-- In all cases, kill the Mountain Squill first
To get the MOST XP from one nest....
-- Kill the two from thefirst (original) spawn, but DO NOT hit the nest.
--move away from the nest 160m for at least a minute.
-- return to nest, often therewill be a brand new pair of squill waiting for you. Not always.
-- DO THIS ONLY TWICE (the 160m thing)
-- If you do it more than twice the nest will just up and disappear. This is a fix the devs dropped recently to prevent infinite regen of nests.
-- After the second 160m trip, return to nest and finish it off normally.
If everything goes according to plan, you could get over 25K xp from one nest.
If you are already aware of all this (I know you're in the forums a lot) then ignore this post, but just in case you don'tknow yet.
Yeah those are pretty common tips. They are really great. I use those same things. I can get about 50k of XP every nest. So far though I am only about 50% up the tree. I only play about an hour or so every day or two.

I applaud you all, I soloed all of rifleman without a pet, I could have been the first Master Rifleman on Wanderhome if I had picked up CH and gotten a GSP, but I couldnt stand how many pets there were, so I was 3rd or 4th
