lol, I'm a 'dude', dude no offense taken.

We do seem to think alike, and judging by your many other posts, I'll take that as a compliment - I generally agree and get along with anyone who thinks and speaks logically, and at least attempts to be unbiased.

on the powerup issue - yeah, there are a couple different 'couplers' that are extremely valuable to us. I currently have a master artisan/architect friend who makes me crates of 33% max dmg/ 16% mind. these rock (as a Master Rifleman/Master Marksman i have no use for speed slices or powerups).

at novice rifle, i would highly recommend thespeed/mind or the other way around, Max mind/speed.

in response/addition to Sotaudi - yeah, the E11 is a great all-round rifle! i have a 34% dmg sliced Krayt E11 that's 111-254 (i don't put powerups on it though). i used to use it a lot when i was novice rifle, now it's a 'sometimes thing'. -and yes, there are much better krayt E11's around now.

another rifle to consider is the Jawa rifle. similar in stats to the E11, higher dmg though. mine is something like 120-220 stock. 5.x speed, and 40 mind. (give or take a point or two). a nice idea would be to get one speed sliced, that will probably bring it down into the 3.x second range, and then put max dmg/mind powerups on it. it has light armor piercing and Stun dmg which a LOT of stuff is vulnerable to. (including composite armor, wee! )

some good tips in this thread -

oh, and for absolute rockbottom mind use - try a DLT20a with a dmg/mind powerup and a speed or dmg slice. whew, mine has 19 mind usage with a max dmg/16% mind powerup.

jeez, another 'oh yeah' - speaking of Mind/Focus/Willpower - i've got my Focus higher than my Willpower based on the same reasoning as you, Sotuadi.

currently (and these may be played with somewhat) my stats are 400 HA-all. 1015 mind. 1075 focus, and 915 willpower... i think. can't remember exactly, but those should be pretty close to what i have'em at. oh, and i'm human ( and remember that i mentioned i was going doctor, for buffs. that takes care of the health/action).

My Laser has a nice speed slice on it (43-396 4.0 speed) Could that be why I burn so much? Maybe I should drop to the less DPS of my 55-514 5.9 speed.

Thoughts?

Does anyone have some tips on decreasing the amount of mind that you use with Rifle?

I currently have 1100-600-600 stats. I have a 59 mind cost laser rifle and use headshot 2. Currently Novice Rifleman.

Should I drop some more health and put into secondaries? Should I get a different rifle? Should I chill out on the Head2 and use something else?

Thanks.

my suggestion would be to drop your health and action secondaries as low as possible, and put them into Mind secondaries. use novice medic and Stim B's to heal your health and action as necessary.

and then, put Mind/Speed powerups on your rifle (or Speed/Mind, whatever you can tolerate).

and in emergency situations, pop the muon gold, or yarrock (or any other buffing food/drug).

or become very good friends with Master Dancers and Master Musicians

or get novice doctor so you can buff yourself and have NO health/action (put everything into mind.

or get Teras Kasi novice so you can use Powerboost (no downer, +500 to mind stats for 10 mins at a time).

i'm not sure if dancer/musician can buff themselves (i would assume so?) that could be an option as well.

myself, i've gone for the Master Rifle, Master Marksman, Novice doctor route, so i can migrate everything to mind and buff myself. haven't reached the buff box yet, in doctor. that will take me a day or two more. i'm looking forward to it - but it leaves me high and dry for terrain negotiation and harvesting.

Migrate your stats so that focus and willpower are maxed.
A high focus regens your mind quicker. I think this is very important.
Then get Novice Medic, and buy good Stim B's so youcan now heal your lower HA bars.

You can use powerups on your rifle that (1) increase damage and (2) lower mind. I think these are couplers of some kind. You can get them so that, at best, increase damage 33% and lower mind costs 16%. Of course, they have increased the decay on rifle condition when using power-ups.

Get Mind Buffs. Come in a variety of ways: Food, Spice (muon gold), Musicians, Dancers.

I agree. Boost the mind stats at the expense of the others, but remember not to go too crazy. How often have you taken down targets with mind damage when you have not used Mindshots or Headshots? Random pool damage goes against Health and Action (and mostly health it seems) far more than mind.

But I would like to correct one thing. The first secondary stats(strength, quickness, and focus) affect how much HAM costs go against the respective pools. Thus boosting those stats means that you do less damage to your own pools. The second secondary stats (constitution, stamina, and willpower) affect regen rates. Boosting these will allow for faster recovery.

Right now, since I do more damage to my own mind than most other things, I prefer boosting Focus over Willpower. The idea is that if I do less damage, there is less to recover.

Also, try getting an E11 rifle for at least some general use circumstances. The Mind on an E11 is around 40, but while the E11 has lower upper end damagethan the Laser, it has a far higher low end damage than it as well, so the average damage is often close to the same for both, but the E11 is faster and is still AP2 (medium armor piercing). You will not get some spectacular hits like you get with the Laser, but neither will you see the miserable lows you may also get with the Laser.

I have gotten a good damage slice, and because it is already at 4.7 speed normally and has lower mind HAM costs, I can put a min/max damage powerup on it and get 146-330 damage at 4.7 using only 40 mind per shot. That means I can spam Headshot 3s not Headshot2s and make up for much of the damage lost from the lower high end, yet still have a lot of mind left over. It does not completelyreplace the Laser, but it is a good option to have.

hmm. depends what your mind stats look like. i would just put some kind of mind powerup on either of'em and see what's most effective for you.

those powerups help a lot. another good idea is put a powerup on one, but put both guns in your hotkey bar, so you can switch to one for specials, and go back to the non-poweruped one for autofire. (i do this all the time, works well).
