In PvP and many times in PvE as a rifleman I find myself running off alot. Idea being to stay alive.
In the beginning I just ran off tapping HS3 as I went. Could see where I was going but could not see the who I was shooting at. Worse, once the first targte died I found it hard to choose a seconf without stopping and messing about.
These days I run backwards. - I can see the targets drop and pick another one fairly quickly. Trouble is I have to pick myterrain well forif I run into an obstruction Im stuck for long enough to cause problems.
WHAT do you guys do?

I'm rarely ina 1v1 situation in PvP so I will usually try to suck them closer to my group using HS3 so the meleers / jedi can have a go at them. If they try to run I usually chase after them and finish them off and use snipershot (just aslong as they're not trying to do the same to me).

'Tabbing' is your friend when you kite... well, that and the radar.
Also, as for the whole terrain thing, that's something you just have to deal with unless you're also a scout or ranger. I'm working on becoming a Master Ranger/Rifleman. And I'm only at Warfaring II and I blaze by most of my fellow guildmates when we hunt together. Its INSANE how fast Rangers can run... much less burst run.

PVP I scroll out a bit from 1st person and run backwards. If they're a meleer and it looks like they may burst into range I'll be flurry shotting to stop the burst run. I carry parwan nutricake and travel biscuits and drag folks into open spaces where they won't be able to use terrain against me. Any time I can pull a meleer away from the crowd it's more fps.
PVE, don't often kite as most groupMOBs we riflemen attack die in a few shots, but against elders and the like I like to just drag them up and down hills while in 1st person and running forward so that I can see where I'm going- usually slows their speed down and allows me to keep my 40-50m distance. I don't like to have multiple aggros at once when trying to take down a target that big, but if I accidentally pull some kwis or rancors or something I just switch from headshot to strafe for a few shots.

Depends what you're fighting really. I don't run much against most NPC's, but against ancient bull rancors, I run my ass off spamming HS2 and warning shots.

I use more of my Ranger skills in kiting. At master, the traps can stick to some really bigcritters consistently -- e.g. Ancient Bull Rancors. Those adhesive mesh and phen darts are REALLY useful. It's hard enough for a creature toeven catch a ranger with all that burstrun efficiency, much less snagus of us whenhecan't move. Stun, blind, and lower defensesain't bad either.
So, for Ranger/Rifleman, most creatures = screwed. Some of those cats are fast, and that can bevery annoying, but you can just headshot3 them without ever being agroed. The traps wont stick to things like Krayts, but it's stillrare for anything else to come within 30m of me after I've been agroed -- especially if they're alone. Those lone Ancient Bulls are real fun targets without buffs or armor; if you're clever, you can completely cripple them with states and pretty welldemolishthem without getting hit.
PvP and NPCs, though, are a completely different story, lol. All I do is run in the opposite direction like a sissy.
IMO, Riflemen aren't the greatest duelers, not unless you canadd something on to negate the state-effects that rule the game -- something I can't fill up as long as I have Master Ranger.
