Noob question: I just mastered rifle. I have enough points still for novice TKA. When MOBs get up in my grill, can I do more damage as a master rifle with pointblank, or would it be beneficial to unequip my rifle and go hand-to-hand with novice TKA? And would this change if it was 1 MOB or 6 MOBs hammering on me?

Thanks!

Run and gun don't stand toe to claw. I would think you will be able to clear them much faster with rifles at master level than as a tka.

/agree.

If you have the points for it, think about novice medic. Nothing helps my game more than a well timed Stim-B.

Point blank area does terrible damage. You'll end up just hitting them with strafe, headshots, or whatever attack you like (flushing shot 2 is nice for the stun effect to reduce damage the MOB is doing to you).Novice medic 2/x/x/xis probably a much more sensible answer (2/x to stop bleeds). Buy as much med use as you can with left over points to try and get higher stims than B if possible.

Novice TKA isn't enough to make it better for close-range fighting than MR. If you get Medic, stims B's are a must. For a long time, I had Medic x/x/3/0 for stim C's and found it to be well worth the investment. I don't have quite that much now, butMedic is just too useful to give up. Maybe that will changewhen we don't kill ourselves using specials

If you really need state defenses, and you have the points, get the Techniques line of Pistoleer. It is by and far the single best "def vs. state" line in the game. Granted, it will not make you invulnerable to state attacks, but it is much better than having none at all. Teras Kasi, IMO, is only good if you're going to master it, or get the Meditation line. Outside of that, I don't see much reason to invest in it.

My response didn't really answer the original question, but it stands. The state defenses from Pistoleer will at least make you somewhat more effective in combat. As far as damage goes though, the only way a TK can belt out the damage a Rifleman can is to have mastery of the art. That said, Novice Medic or theTechniques line of Pistoleer is probably a better place to spend your points. When the enemy closes, just use Strafe2 or your HeadShot/Mindshot. Your accuracy will generally override the penalty of being in close combat. I fight and kill rancors and other high-level mobs in close combat all the time, and I do it with my rifle
