The character I have chosen to build can only climb up to level 3 of a single column.

What would you say is thecolumn that I should choose?

No point is doing rifleman for anything other than master. If you have to do 3/0/0/0, Your accuracy will still suck though.

I am using rifleman as a filler. I am a wookiee and will be using a bowcaster. I know it is not a great gun.

I just figure a little bit of rifleman is better than none.

I agree that you are better off spending those 12 points elsewhere. However, if you must put 12 points into Rifleman, you will likely want either the first or fourth branch. The first will give you accuracy, the fourth will give you speed. Or you could put them into the third branch and get flushingshot2, but it'll be extremely slow and horribly accurate

Something else to maybe consider- the first branch provides no defense. The second gets you ranged mitigation 2 and +30 ranged defense, the third provides some weak state defenses and some Block, and the fourth provides +30 melee defense. I'd bet you can find better defenses elsewhere, but if you're set on getting 3 boxes in Rifleman, choosing them according to defensive benefits would probably be better than doing so for offensive benefits.

I will re-iterate however, unlike many other combat professions that allow for some amount of dabbling the worthwhile rifleman skills are well distributed. This is not like stacking with melee TKM + fencer. With one of the best PvE skills in the game in the master box (Strafe2) and the real power coming with a speed cap rifle screams to be mastered.

If you like rifle then get master. Otherwise spend those points in Medic or scout to either allow hunting, or to allow you to use better heal kits or wound packs. Better yet, save them for FS skill to improve your character that way.

There is plenty of reason to get rifle master if you like ranged though. It is the only ranged profession that really stands on its own in PvE or PvP, the other two pretty much need BH to bring them up to where they should be.

Personally I think it is the only range weapon that feels ranged in PvE. Most mobs are either melee only, or choose melee so you end up fighting at 0m as most ranged. Rifle has conceal shot though.

Shame about the bowcaster. The weapon is needlessly nerfed because the devs made it available to any wookie.

Blame an inflexible skill system. They could have made things so that you got better bowcasters as you level. For example you can use an ok caster at marksmen novice but you need a novice ranged to use the better ones. Any novice ranged mind you.

The fact that only wookie WS can make them is a dumb idea too.

I couldn't agree more with the previous messages. Anything less than master rifleman is almost useless.

Ok, you have changed my mind. I think I shall master rifleman and drop down to Ranger 0-0-3-0 instead.

Ifirst have to master weaponsmith to make myself the best bowcasters that I can.

Thanks for the help.
