Thread: Its not just us, rifles do actually suck a bit...

Sick of the 2.5x melee damage modifier I sold a few scout skills to get pistol 2, made myself a nice Scout and sliced it down to 1.5 speed...max damage of about 130. What a surprise I find...I can hit stuff at good range, I can take on a hoard of white mobs at the same time, I can take on red mobs with ease, I can hit stuff when Im running, my HAM costs are insignificant.

Im starting to wonder exactly why I bother with rifles at all now I have sampled the wonders of pistols. They do too much damage for the speed, they should be as ineffective above 20m range as a rifle is at pointblank and rifles should have the melee multiplier removed.

I picked up a pistol one time and got attacked by more than one mob once. I was fully prepared for the cloning center but I won the fight, quite easily I might add.

It's amazing that Rifleman are so used to *dying* in nearly every situation. I don't see how a class can say that we as a combat class aren't broken when every member of our class alreay expects to be dead in a myriad of situations.

I guess other classes don't understand what it's like to be thinking "If I miss the next shot I die." Instead, a class like pistoleer thinks "If I miss the next shot, which I won't, I'll just shoot at it some more until it's dead."

Death has become so common for our class it isn't even frustrating anymore. We just pick up our things and keep at it because when it happends that often you just have to deal with it.

I don't know what the hell is wrong with me, every MMORPG I play I tend to pick the gimpiest class (seemingly) In Everquest I played a Ranger exclusively, it's part of my personality. In low-tech games I always end up as an archer. People called Ranger "walking corpses" because there were so many that didn't know how to play them that they were always dying. In Planetside I played a member of the Vanu Sovereignty which has the most mediocre damage weapons with an average rate of fire, but that game is actually pretty balanced, you just have to know how to play to your strongside. With the Vanu it was pretty difficult. The Terrans got miniguns, the New Conglomerate got shotguns, and we got some energy thing.

At least in that game you aren't locked into any one role, aside from the Faction you joined.

And here, I've magically picked rifleman, which isn't such a BAD class, as most people just don't understand why taking away the uber damage they once saw a master rifleman dish out for a span of 8 seconds would make the class so worthless to grind through.

Wait wait wait...you did NOT die? My god what happened here? Where you bathed in a holy glowing light, did Q come down from on high and smite the creatures for you, was an AT ST nearby?

Nope...just a Scout Pistol that you can use within a few minutes of starting a new character

The funny thing is I took it on to be a back-up weapon, yet it's quickly becoming my primary and I only have Pistol 2...Im about 20% of the way through Rifleman and I just die so, so easily when I use a Rifle.

I've given up on rifleman. Gave my t21 to a friend.
I started up the two handed brawler going for swordsman.

Last night me and a friend took on to Imperial Medics and a Sergent Major.
All three red con's.

I have three box's in two handed. He's almost a master marksman.
And we got all three. I'm having a blast charging into the middle of mob's yelling SPOOOON.

Well I just got flushing shot 2 and am content (though not ecstatic) with being a rifleman - I dropped 3 rebel NPCs that conned white to me intwo shots (interestingly I hit all 3 in different pools with the 1st shot, and then the second shot hit the same pool on each one). Granted those three weren't melee NPCs, or creatures, but I have ways of dealing with them as well.

I do however agree that it is a uniquely rifleman experience to be fatalistic, I don't even get annoyed when I die anymore, I just shrug and take solace in the fact that I never forget to clone anymore!

I am master marksman / survival left for Master scount now on my way to BH. I left rifleman - best move I have made so far.

I used a FWG 52-201 Pistol last night and totally tore apart a gurrcat lair. -- try doing that with a rifle.

Oh, those little perks that only we riflemen get!
I always stay cloned in the town I'm hunting from, so after dealing with missions that are a ways out of town, I can get back much faster by holding my rifle and letting someone beat the life out of me!
"Hey guys, race ya back to town for 10K$ !!"

I heard that pistols have a bug that makes them never miss. Not sure of the details, but maybe there is something to this rumor.

How tough are Fambaa to kill with pistol? Just wondering.

With the immense kiting potential a pistol offers Im sure they are no more threatening than the average Desert Demon group is to a rifleman.

Pistols do miss sometimes though...but Im only on Pistol 2...if I were to be on Master Pistoleer then I'd be some sort of god!
