Thread: A thought for improving Novices... low dam AoE

Hey y'all,

Just been thinking about a way to help novices get some xp. Fact 1: SOE wants us to group. Fact 2: until we get Flushing/Startle 2, we suck in group damage. Fact 3: to get the xp for those shots, you almost need to group. Fact 4: Novice rifleman have some issues; Specifically, the grind sucks.

Now here is my proposed solution. Put a low multiplier (2-3x or so), random pool, decent accuracy, AoE attack somewhere in the lower (1st, maybe 2nd tier)rifle skills, IE:Rifle speed 1(can't remember the actual name).

This helps riflemen if they feel like soloing, and it makes us practical in groups. It wouldn't be hard to get, as we are earning combat xp from killing stuff anyways, and if you don't get the now useless suppression fire, you are almost there at Novice rifleman.

Just a suggestion.... ANY thoughts or comments would be greatly appreciated, I just thought it may be a neat idea.

Rifle speed 2 if anywhere, it's one of the few blank spots, makes so it still takes some work (this shouldn't be a freebie) ok ok a lot of work if it's there but still. I dunno if we really need another aoe, presonally i'd just be happy if we fix current problems, or just added some decent high damage single target hits. You have to admit it's ironic that the one class that hates getting mobbed gets most of the aoe moves.

Personally, I don't think that this is going to help you any, but a few comments...

1. Flurry 2 is a relatively low damage random pool AoE that you can get before master.
2. A low damage AoE is going to get you killed a lot more than it will help you... here's some explaination...

As a master, one of my favorite attacks is Strafe2, but while it's my favorite, it's also my least used attack... why?

AoEs have a side effect - using it once causes every mob in the area that's not already engaged in combat to aggro you.

Because of that, I don't use AoE attacks unless:
A.that one or two hits will kill every target
B. there is only one target and nothing else is near it

B may sound funny, but Strafe2 is also our most powerful attack... but it's too dangerous to use it if anything else if around to jump on you while you're busy.

Also keep in mind that a successful AoE attack requires 2 shot under most circumstances. The first shot is aimed at the target and causes all potential targets around it to become aggressive towards you (but they are not hit)... the second AoE attack then attacks the target and all the now-aggressive targets.

Because of this you need to be able to get that second shot off pretty fast, because you just made a one mob problem turn into a 2-10 mob problem.

Hope this helps,

that's an interesting idea, perhaps make strafe 1 and AoE attack that does like a x2 modifier. I agree when grouping using flushing2 gets me more xp than anything.
