Guide to Merc Missions on Lok.
Q: Why hunt Mercs?
A: Snor missions are no more and Mercs provide quite a challenge (especially after snors!). Furthermore, each Merc gives 4kexp and 16kcash for the mission.
Q: What will I need to do these missions?
A: Mercs can be tough. You’ll need Medical abilities (heals, first aid) and/or a friend with Med abilities and/or a brother/sister of the Rifle. As for rifle abilities specifically;
/mindshot2&1, /headshot3, and dizzy/posture-change as an option. Lastly, bring along your T21 (sliced&powered-up for dmg), Mind Drugs, Mind Food (counter the drugs), Armor (leave the Helm at Home) and plenty of Medical Supplies.
Q: What exactly am I hunting here?
A: With the missions you’ll face three different Mercs; Weak, Commander and Destroyer.
Attack the Commander first and you’ll have to face the entire camp. Attack the Weak Merc first and you’ll probably have to face both him and the Destroyer. Attack the Destroyer first and BOTH the Commander AND the Weak Merc will run away. They will generally run the direction they are currently facing so, don’t force them into your path or you will get their agro as well as your targets. By the way, they all hit hard but the Weak Merc goes down faster…go fish!
Q: What is the general setup for these fights?
A: First get two missions in the EXACT same direction. Ideally, the lairs will line up relatively close to one another (in theory). As you approach the first lair, load up on your mind drugs. As they take effect find the Merc Destroyer. Sometimes you’ll be unfortunate enough to get two of them, I’ll get to that in a moment. Once you find the Merc Destroyer hit him with both your DOTs (/mindshot2&1) and try for a /headshot3. Although the tactic is generally known as Kitting, its more like Hit&Run. Because as your target drops to a lower position to fire on you, you hit /peace, /healdamage, and back off to 70m. The target will chase. Once in firing range, /aim, /headshot3, /peace, /healdamage, and back off to 70m again. Lather, Rinse, Repeat…IN THIS ORDER; Destroyer, Weak, Commander. Now high tail it to the next lair before your Drugs drop. Lather, Rinse, Repeat…Now, if you get two Destroyers and a Commander just use /concealshot to agro the other Destroyer (as in NOT the one you are attacking with /concealshot). This will allow you to pull singles from the camp. Again, the Commander will run once you attack anyone but him.
Q: I’ve just taken out the spawns at both camps. Now what?
A: Your Mind Drugs have just dropped so you can either take out the lair that you just cleared and then take out the first (which should still be clear if your second lair isn’t to far and you fought your way back towards the first lair) OR you run 130m away and wait there for Mind Drug downer to go away and prepare for another run at both newly spawned lairs.
Q: Why did you write this post?
A: I’ve been playing since release and I’m on my last 100k exp to hit Master Riflemen. Therefore, I wish to give something back to the Riflemen community that has helped me get here. Thank you for reading this and thank you all for your time and knowledge.
Q: Great challenge however, I was hoping for something easier. I like to knit while I play.
A: Endor for Bongles and Doth for Biznatches. Now, here is twenty bucks go buy ya self something pretty.
Just curious why you like to kill them one at a time & not use your AoE attacks. With a T21, spiced up, etc, I would imagine that you should be able to kill all three in short order...
You will have to take a break right after while the mind pool heals up, but... So whats the rationale?
BTW, Just got 3 0 3 2 last night. Yay, carbine suprise shot.
EXCELLENT post, thanks! I'm going to have to try this for a couple hours this week ![]()
Besides, If i can solo some corsair bases then I'll hopefully get some positive Nym faction FP.. -5000 Nym FP makes it somewhat annoying to play on lok at times, hehe.
