can I be effective with ris or should I buy the standard recon like tantel/mabari?

depends on your template - ie if you've mastered a battle armor proffesion - that i'd help. and also what you like fighting, and what level you're fighting a - ie high end pvp and mobs or just messing about, and how rich you are - loot for RIS is rare and expensive

well im building my alt up now to mrifle/mcm.. plan on using him in pvp.

then my advice would be get a 7500+ energy resist tantel suit (and ADK it - you'll probably find your self trapsing to the cloner a few times no matter how good you are - and it runins armor) for pvp. most people use energy weapons in pvp- both ranged and jedi - unless you notice alot of people with hammers and swords. and get your RIS for creature fighting with a kinetic layer in to boost protection.

the way Armour is now constructed, RIS is in fact no different in resist terms to any other battle armour.
The only reason to have it is rarety (of sorts) due to the loot required to make it.

...nearly correct, RIS has about x2 condition over all but faction armor. (roughly 40k for standard, 75k for faction and 100k for RIS - verying stlightlydepending on materials)

IMO, you are better off getting a well made set of Normal armor, whether it be Battle or Recon.
RIS Armor is basically a funny looking, poofy, insect-like, extremely expensive, ugly dress.
The Padded Armor Helmet (a.k.a. Condom Hat), looks 20x better than RIS.

RIS is the nuts ! It looks like Samurai armour so i wont hear a bad word said about it
