Thread: Conceal shot. Bugged but still worth it.

Just a note to all newer riflemen out there. Some may say to skip it but I finally just decided to get it a couple days ago and it is 100% worth it. Even though it is bugged it is still an awsome shot. I basically went from being able to take out scyks or lower level mobs to being able to take out Tuskens, bocats, etc. solo. I wish I had invested in this skill earlier. The problem is you have to make sure you are shooting at a creature that is farther away from his buddies. Or else they come running and you are dead. If they are out of range you will kill the creature very easily. Gets you tons more XP than you are used to also.

what are the average HAM costs for conceal shot like?

what does it do exactly? From what I gathered, it makes it so the target doesn't attack back and you can keep hitting it continiously... but is it true that the target will aggro if you miss even once? And it is random pool, right? So although random pool hits health more often than not, it can also hit for action and mind a bunch of times so it takes a long time to take the mob down... and you can run out of HAM...

HAM cost is a little higher than I think HS2. Its a very, very, very slow shot. Yes when I miss the little critter comes running but to compensate I try to keep them in ideal range to prevent that. I only miss every so often. If you can just make sure burst run is a macro you can click very easily. Most the time though I end up hitting the critters health pool but yes I waste a bunch of shots on other bars since it is random. But the ability to take it down and gain 2k+ XP from one kill makes all the difference. I wish I had only gotten this shot sooner because I would have 2x more XP now if I had.

if in the same amount of time you just one-shotted dark blue con mobs continuously, you'd get more xp

It is useful, but only situationally since its bug is crippling. If there is one guy out all alone from his friends then yes the skill is great...but how many times does this happen? I run a good number of missions and only every so often is there a creature that is really that far enough away that you can safely do this cause after all if you slightly get something pissed off your a dead man. It's worth the little xp you need, being a tier 1 and all, and is useful but it isn't a godsend or anything. Now if they fixed it...

I am sorry, but if you think that this shot is gimped you are completely mistaken. Yes, a MOB's friends will see you and aggro on you, and you can read my post:

http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=rifleman&message.id=23376

for a little rifleman humor on the ridiculousness of this aspect of it.

But to dismiss it so quickly is to fail to understand the value of the shot. First, just because it is highly useful in solo attacks on lone MOBs does not mean that that is the only place it is useful. I have use it with great success while fighting in groups. Groups you say? What is the point? The point is that if you and your group go up against a bad MOB and the rest of you group goes down, guess what? If you have been using concealshot, the bad guy is not aware you have been attacking him, and, thus, you can continue to fire without taking a chance that he will aggro on you unless you miss twice. And being a random pool attack, you are able to work on the same pools as the pistol and carbine users are, helping to bring down the MOB quicker. Yes, many of our other specials attack random pools as well, but none of them do so without attaracting attention. Yes, stunning, dizzying, and knocking down the opponent is probably more helpful to the group, but not every high level mob is suseptible to those states, and even then, it does not always work. The fact is, you are not truly effective with those moves until you start getting higher in the Rifleman tree. So for a first or second skill after making Novice Rifleman, concealshot is certainly a Godsend.

But even so, there are plenty of things you can attack solo without aggroing a bunch of mobs to attack you. Rogue varieties of many species exist. They are out by themselves. Many other species, such as Plains Hunters on Naboo, are by nature loners, yet also produce high XP output. Plus, you can, as mentioned, create situations where you can solo BAF MOBs if you set things up right.

But guess what, even if it does BAF, so do ALL of our other shots. So why is Concealshot worthless just because the BAF friends come? After all, is it not better that your intial target's friends come, but it does not. With our other shots, everyone comes.

With what other shots we can use can you solo an AT-ST (or similar instant death MOBs) without taking damage? With concealshot and a little patience, planning, and proper execution, you can solo an AT-ST and do so without taking any damage, at least none inflicted by the enemy (hehe). That alone makes the shot worth while.

Here is another use: a powerful combo is /mindshot2;/mindshot1;/anothershothere. The third shot just has to be a non-bleed shot for you to get credit. Why not use concealshot? Concealshot not only does a lot of damage, but it alsowill not trigger an autoresponse attack. The mindshots will not trigger a response until the first bleed damage occurs. Using concealshot can give you an extra few seconds to setup for the onslaught that will come when your first bleeds hit. Other shots can trigger the autoresponse, bringing the MOB right now.

So I understand the frustration over concealshot being noticed by everyone other than the target, but please do not dismiss this shot so quickly. It is powerful, it does a lot of damage, it allows us to solo things few other classes can solo, and at much less risk than they. It also allows us to participate in group missions without taking some of the risks that other classes take. Look, I am not arguing that concealshot is the shot to end all shots. But I am saying, like every other shot, it has its place in our arsenal, and it certainly deserves more credit than it gets.

Conceal shot works great until you miss....... Eventually everyone misses, especially once the MOB starts moving around in circles, confused.

Yes I agree it needs to be fixed man I am so happy since I got it. Im raking in a lot more XP than I used to. I just have to pick out the critter that is just slightly out of range of its buddies coming to its aid and boom 3k+ XP. Of course sometimes this means getting incapped on purpose to drag one critter out further from the group but hey I get my revenge on that little beast afterwards. Course my medical bills are higher than ever now
