I personaly do not use armor. The encumbrance is way too much, especially on helms.

What i've heard is that you get a good set of kinetic resist armor, 50%+, and have equip full suit as a macro. When things get close, macro, and bust out a pistol for warning shots. Macro off, resume shooting. Repeat till dead MOB. Good armors for this are ubese of chitin, I thinks.

Good luck

Figuredit might be time to re-post this from a thread a few months ago, so with a few edits, here we go:

If you're out hunting solo using conceal shot and rarely, if ever, getting attacked, you don't need to be wearing armor, plain and simple. You're not using it most of the time, and it slows your regen rate and makes those special shots take more of your mind. That being said, however ...

Sometimes those mobs love to warp on top of you (don't we all know it), and sometimes you just get aggro'd. I heartily suggest having a suit of armor ready for you to put on at the push of a button with a macro. Now, as for what type of armor you need, let's take a look.

As with most everything in this game, the type of armor you want depends on your playstyle and what you are hunting. What works for me may not work as well for you, and vice-versa. Here are a few suggestions, though:

  • Mabari Armor -- That's right, the novice armorsmith item is perfect for the solo creature hunting rifleman. Ask your armorsmith to experiment on the efficiency so as to boost the kinetic protection. You should be able to get it somewhere between 15-25% kinetic, depending onif the smithhas advanced components or not. Mabari is also extremely light (mind encumbrance on a Mabari helmet is usually 60-70). It does have a few drawbacks, however -- no arm/bicep protection (Chitin biceps work well with it) and no energy protection (vulnerable to NPCs andbasically useless in PvP).

This energy protection problem can easily be overcome, however, if you can get your hands on either Krayt or Voritor scales (not segments). These are used in the process of crafting segments and will impart energy protection, boost the kinetic protection, and in the case of Krayt, also boost everything but electricity and stun.

  • Ubese Armor (sans helmet) -- Good kinetic protection (30-35% for standard non-layered, 50% or so for advanced)as well as protection against energy attacks (good against NPCs). Generally lighter than comparable chitin armor (unlayered), the Ubese helmet is awfully harsh on the mind encumbrance, so I'd use another type of helmet. Ubese is also layerable, so you can get extra protection with a minor encumbrance penalty.

If you always fight critters and want to have some extra kinetic protection, get a kinetic layer. If you fight both critters and NPCs (even some PvP), go with either heatlayers or get a heap of Kimoglia, Sharnaff, or Rancor scales/hides, as these will also impart heat protection. Personally, Iwear a heat-layered Ubese suit with a kinetic-layered Tantel helmet. Unsliced, this has a total encumbrance of 310/380/330, and I would have died a lot more without it.

  • Voritor Hide/Bone Armor -- What's this? Go to Dantooine and kill a ton of voritors (lizard things that apparently have no harvestable resources). Loot them. About 15% of them drop Voritor Hide segments which are essentially kinetic-layered bone segments. This is the lightest armor in the game, and has an AR1 protection against the two most commonly encountered damage types in the game. Unfortunately, the kinetic protection is locked at about 5% (there is a bug with layers), but there are plenty of benefits to it. If you have this, you can wear it without even thinking about encumbrance.

  • Personal Shield Generator -- stackable over your armor, wearable by Wookiees, no encumbrance, high energy protection, etc. Fragile, though, so only use them in emergencies. Again, I would die a lot more without these.

That's about it from my end. I don't think I'd recommend anything other than these to the average rifleman who's not engaged in daily pitched PvP battles (you may well be best off going with composite there). Don't bother with Chitin unless you plan to switch over to a melee or pistol when mobs get close. Don't bother with padded, either (I don't recommend it for anyone).

Being an armorsmith and rifleman, I have a unique position to answer this question...

The best all around armor for you is Ubese. High resists, especiallykinetic, aren't uncommon, and it is very forgiving on your HAM penalties. Another idea would be to look into an advanced mabari (don't laugh) a high level armorsmith with a good set of layers could build a glorioussuit for you for a relatively small amount of HAM. The disadvantage with mabari is that it'll need a energy layer as the suit is vulnerable by default (assuming the bugs are fixed with these, I haven't checked) Ubese, however, is much easier for an experienced armorsmith to make, thus would probably be a better choice for you.

One thing though... don't put all of it on necessarily, just protect the areas that get you incapped in frequently. (except mind, NEVER use a helmet as a rifleman unless you're a Mon Cal just bolster your mind from a stat that you'll be protecting with armor)

I'm a Mon Cal Rifleman (3232) and Combat Medic (3423), 1120M, 680ish Focus/Will.

I use armour when solo or in a small group and none when I'm ina larger group and using my healing more.

Right now I wear a padded BP and Composite everywhere else except helm (mind enc too high)and gloves (mon cal race restriction). The composite is all around 50% resist and sliced for encumberance. I also use a personal shield generator at all times and just buy new ones when they give up.

And that pretty much works fine for me, especially when good is working. Teltier Noodles and Caf are my staples and I keep a crate of Muon handy for emergencies. My current weapon of choice is a T21 with 68 Mind cost (57 with 16% mind enc powerups).

i also do not use any armor, i use BE and tape enhanced clothing instead. the nind encumbrance will kill you or make you not fully effective in puting out the dmg. even a little bit, and i got 800 willpower and 650 focus.

I use 2 sets or armor, and advanced Kinetic Ubese and a composite set for pvp. The Ubese does not stop heatand some other so for players you need more coverage. I am a rifleman and I seem to be the minority because I do use a helm. The regen rates mean almost nothing while in combat and i have migrated 1/3 of my action pool into my secondary pools to help boostwillpower and focus. I have been incapped many times in the past by a head hit after draining the pool,my mind has been saved many times since donning the helm in battle, just need to keep an eye on that mind pool. If I wear the full suit of armor and consume Muon Gold it destroys any mind encumbrance issues for 10min as well, so if I am fighting in pvp or large creatures I can spam my specials till it is dead. Now, if I am under cover and using conceal I put on my tactical skin suit and shed all of the armor, stat regen is important for this type of slow combat. But even then if I choose to spice it really does not matter much. After figuring out how to properly use stat migration I have discovered that 50% protection for the head is a huge bennefit vs. the down sides. Takes practice and work but it has changed the game for me. I fall far less than I used to and much less than most of my freinds.

In PvE I do not wear anything. In PvP I use a shield generator because it dosnt have any encumbrances. I just bought a few of them. 40% on energy and 29% on all other stats. They wear out fast but most PvP battles dont last longer than 30 seconds or so anyway. So I would say one shield gen lasts me about 10-15 PvP battles depending on how hard the other person fights back.

Trandoshan here, Master rifleman along with Teras kasi/commando/smuggler added (Yes I have barely enough to get pretty high up in those ). Anywho, My oppinion? Get some composite. I cant wear boots/gloves due to race, and I dont wear helmets anyways because besides BH only other riflemen target mind (and you know how rare we are and all). I got some really good composite recently, 55% resist to all on it, and get this, a full suit minus the helm/boots/gloves gets me at only 300 health 230 action and 130 mind encumberance. Thats almost as light as chitin. Go find a good armorsmith, shell out 200k and get a nice set, its worth it.
