I was afraid it was the axe, it just looks so silly. how far up the tree do you have to go before you get an actual sword?

Furthermore:

I have 2-handed expertise, I won't have enoughskill points left after I master Doctor (for max self-buffs) for Novice Swordsperson. I find the curved 2-handed sword my best 2-handed weapon, the speed seems to outweight the slower, higher damage of a vibro-axe. Never, ever seen a scythe for sale (on Scylla server), so I have no idea of the worth of that weapon.

Daddy had quite a few daughters of which I am only one. Loki even took on female form on occasion to produce his own preferred progeny. I'll tell you this: my mother was not Angrboda, I believe she may have been Tyr.

The best swords weapons are the 2h curved sword (at advanced swords, in brawler) and the Powerhammer (at novice swordsman). The 2h curved sword will be your bread and butter weapon until at least finesse 2, because the powerhammer is too inaccurate to be reliable until then.

While rifle and 2h sword are a decent combo (because both can hit the mind pool) you may wish to consider something like fencer or TKA instead. Both are better for defense than 2h sword, because they're faster, meaning you have less delay before you can heal. Rifle/2h sword is only good if you always plan to be on offense, and if that's the case, rifle quickly takes a back seat to 2h sword, because 2h sword is much more efficient (at least early on) at dispatching your enemy, and unless you need the experience, you'll find yourself only using the rifle to pick off runners.

the combo works well for me although i could only go one line in swordsman but its enough to stay alive till pets regain agro and i can pull the T21 back out .i initially went the speed line but at 3 trains and enough combat exp to train up to warrior i swapped out . the speed was nice with the power hammer , but the 2h sword is fast enough and with the accuracy it never misses . those warping mobs arent a big concern if you live thru that intial hit with the rifle modifier .

I used to start the game with just the marksman-rifle tree, but soon I found out that any mob that comes close will soon beat the crap out of you. After picking up the 2-handed tree from brawler I have become much more efficient at killing things.

Usually start with a mind bleed from the rifle followed by a headshot. Then when the mob comes close I finish it with headhits from the sword. Works great. Although rifle exp has slowed down since I got a sword because I kill more things wit the sword now than with the rifle...

In my opinion using either class alone won't cut it (you'll either suck at ranged or suck at melee), you need both working together to make them shine.

I've used the 2H Curved Sword quite a while, but I'm now using a Cleaver. The 2H Curved Sword has a bit lower health cost and a little bit higher max damage, but the Cleaver has much higher min damage (so more consistent damage) and a little higher speed. Plus it looks so much cooler too (too bad they're so hard to find).

As for the initial question, I just used the axe until I got to tier 3 so I could start using the 2H Curved Sword, just killing small things close to the city should get you exp pretty fast.
