I am a 3112 rifleman/TKM. I've been doing Reb faction missions on Rori and Naboo. I use cover a lot. I makes me a lot harder to hit with blasts from imperial stormtroopers while I spam head hit 3 from the take cover positions. I do the missions unbuffed, with 67% adv. composite armor and a lot of muon. The take cover special only works about 50% of the time, but when it does work, It works great. I don't understand why some of the threads i've been reading kinda poo poo the cover special.
Let me know what you think!

Take cover does make it even harder. It's also good to increase chance to dodge for some silly reason (You roll in the animation). Too bad I never get into a situation where this can be used

take cover and use concealshot they won't hit you at all because they will never shoot at you

Use Concealshot and do not miss or let them get too close where they can see you and there is no need to use TakeCover. It is not necessary for Concealshot, and it does not make you harder to see.
If they do start shooting for whatever reason (e.g., that random bleed thing), Cover would make you marginally safer.

I rarely use Cover because in my experience, it only sticks about 1/3 of the time, and to get it to stick you have to use HAM, which you cannot heal because, to be in cover, you have to be prone. When it does, stick and they do start shooting at you, I will agree it makes you marginally safer, but, frankly, I have never noticed a big enough difference to make it worth using. But I am glad you find it useful.

I have never had a problem with the result of cover. My problem with it is that it takes quite a bit of ham just to use, and it's even worse when you fail 50% of the time (sometimes more). I'm a Bothan Master Rifleman, with +90 cover (+10 more than others since it's a racial trait), yet I fail most of the time. The devs have said in the past that they want cover to have a use, but they need to address it's ham cost and fail % first and foremost.

stand at 64m and use concealshot and they'll never shoot at you
cover is a waste of time and HAM and gets you killed against anything that decides to run up and melee you

If you go prone then take cover it almost always works, however I still find it to be pointless since it just takes away HAM that I'd need (can't heal) for a minor increase in defense. I never wear armor when I run missions nor do I buff I only use muon, yeah I'm that old school, and I find it good enough to simply go prone and launch my attacks. This way I don't lose HAM, have a slight increase in defense v ranged, and if I hit a melee stormtrooper I can stand up and get away with my health at full (the no HAM thing again). The great thing is that I can kill the ST before my 4th shot most of the time with HS3 so I don't get the aggro anyway
