Hey everyone I'm totally new to the game (been playing for 2 weeks) and this is my first post...

Here is my question.

I'm currently working Riffleman and my ultimate goal is to PvP. [I'm currently (2-1-1-1)]

So here is my question for PvP...

What other template should I have?

My choices are either Tera Kasi, Pikeman, Doctor, Combat Medic (just read previous post.)

Tera Kasi has defenses and head hit.

Pikeman has block so with my riffleman and pikeman I would have a huge amount of block.

Or combat medic for the poison.

Or doctor ( dont know if that one makes much sense but figured I would throw it in there.)

So what do you guys think?
I dont know how PvP goes in Galaxies is it usually 1 or 2 vs 1 or is it mass people everywhere?

Well Doc if you want to be like everyother Rifleman in the world, although the Heals and cures are nice. I'm a Master Fencer/Master Brawler/Master Rifleman.. which I like alot... plus you can get novice medic. It's all up too your play style, so test things out and have fun. And welcome to SWG

Depends- I'm a Master Rifleman/Marksmen that is going Master weaponsmith also.

Now this limits me hugely, it means I must PVP with large groups and pickoff people while I stand at the far edge of combat away from everybody else. Now the reason why I just used myself as an example is to show you can still partake in PVP even if you do not pick the best template(You have to play smart though).

Doctor/Rifleman is the most PVP capable- You can solo entire groups if your quick witted and aware.

Rifleman/CM is the second most powerful- If you fight with a group you can decimate entire groups(unless it is a group of doctors your fighting)

TKA/Rifleman- Pretty strong if you don't want to do any healing- Doctors and CM's can chew you up solo though, so you might want to group consistantly

Pikeman- Would be interesting, if you get some ub3r loot NS lances with mind poison your almost as good as a CM- But you need the Ub3r loot(which is expensive)and you need to get into melee range to use the poisons.

So really it depends on how much of a challenge you want and on what your combat style is. Maybe you should check out the boards of each profession your looking at before you make your decision, it will probably be alot more healpful.

I am the Mad Rifleman, Writer of the Riflenomican. I understand the secrets of the Dark Ancient Developer ones and their Evil. (Maniacal Laughter) He he he he he, Ha ha ha ha ha, Aha ha ha ha!
CM's are like nukes. You have them just incase you need them, but as soon as you start using yours the other guys start using theirs and everything goes to hell-PyschoticChipmunk -The First line of the Riflenomican.

So as I understand it:

Doc - Is all offensive and has no defenses hence it doesnt make a very good PvE character.

CM - Is about the same as Doc

TKA - Gives you those added defense however makes you weaker in PvP, but overall it is a more well rounded character

Pikeman - Useless cause block doesn't really work

Am I getting this right?

Anyother templates I could consider?

Thanks for the help guys!

If your looking for PvP action go rifelman/doc personally i prefer Rifelman/fencer 4-0-0-0 cause of the D bonus nad i migrate all my stats as a human to mind and get hella buffed thats for PVP.

If youre more into hunting Big stuff like Enraged Rancor or Krayt then i would dont kill me for this but i would put some thought into CH.. i know CH is hella nerfed but ur pets can get you out of a really tight spot nad have enugh ham to hold off almost n e creature for 10 min wich is far enugh time to kill anything.

Look at it this way Rifelman is in for a nerf along with Commando, TKA, MHS, fencer needs a fix and a lil nerf. but the mingty CH will be left alone cause they went thru their combat rebalance a while ago =D

with the ability to summon2 graul maulers that just chill behind you wile you conceal shot the hell out of an eranged rancor or kraytits nice `cause if they aggro you you can tell youre pets to attack hop on ur swoop and bookit.

But thats just my opinion it really depends on what you want to do =D

So how long would it be before the nerf?

Cause I mean if its coming in like 2-3 months that probably how long it would take me to Master Riffleman and Doc....

Another question say I was to go Riffleman/TKA...

I would have a nice amount of skill points left over, what should I put them into?
Pistoleer for the Defenses?

It all depends on what you want to do.

Personally I'm Master Rifle/Master Marksman/Scout 4-0-3-0/Medic 4-3-3-0/Pistoleer 0-0-4-1

I get some good defense and a KD move from the pistoleer, extra speed/accuracy from marksman for the rifles, and awesome healing with medic. (Big stim C's rule!) Also with scout I can move fast (PvP in the wild, this has saved my arse a few times believe it or not) and harvest a lot of resources from monsters which helps me earn a living. Also mask scent is really useful to have from scout for PvE.

Kind of an odd template to be sure but I have a ton of fun with it.

After reading everything you guys posted (and thanks for all your posts) I decided that I dont want to do Doc or Combat Medic cause that way I would have absolutely no defenses.

Someone told me that a Master Fencer/Master Riffleman template is killer in PvP and not too bad in PvE either. Is this true? Or is TKM/Riffleman better?

Also if I do either of those I would still have 66 points left over right?

92+92=184/250

So what I should with those?
Healing - Medic?

Pistoleer - Defense?

Anything else I'm missing...

Thanks for all your help.

Hi everyone,

I'm in a similar decision making position as ZXFighter, basicaly I'm goingfor master rifle-man and another melee proffession, I like the sound of TKA as they just seem cool, But I was just wondering what the advantages of the other melee proffessions were, so I havea few questions to add

a) everyone seems to rave about fencers, what is it that makes them so special?

b)I dont know much about pikeman, is it any good?

c) I noticed that swords man has a few mind attacks, I would have thought that this would make it a good companion for a rifleman as you can weaken a tough opponents mind from a distance then continue attacking the mind up close?

d) How does TKA compare to 'armed' melee proffessions, does it hit as hard and does it have mind attacks?

e) I have scout and find mask scent is really usefull at the momment, is this still worth keeping as a master rifleman or does the riflemans concealment techniques overshadow this?

cheers in advance

Well since you are asking for opinions I will use something that happend yesterday as an example:

I was in the basement of a faction base selling FP when a raid on the base began. I had my Master Smuggler tag on when they came in and when they started attacking me I went FD (feign death..smuggler skill). After beating on me for awhile and taunting me they left me alone to work on the other bases (they had already cleared the one I was in and there are 4 bases all put together in this area). I got back up, healed my wounds (I have the med line from TKA) and then went outside to find them. It just so happens that they found me outside first and started attacking me..I went FD again, but this time I acted like I went afk and didn't response the their tells and I watched them. From what I could tell they were farming FP from the bases and not trying to take them out. Well eventually I realized they had either forgotten about me or figured I would not get up while they were they and they started attacking a base about 50m away, killing the factional NPCs there. I bet you seasoned rifleman know what is going to happen now :-). They did not know what hit them. All I kept seeing was "WFT?" bubbles over their head. I took all 6 out because they were so busy with the factional NPCs 50m away. They had no clue that I was a rifleman as well as a master smuggler, which is a rare template, so I did not appear to be much of a threat to them (I mean 6v1, who would see those odds as a threat).

The point? Build your template with something that is fun for you. For me this was a blast, especially after I took them out and they realized what had happend....the tells I got afterward were entertaining to say the least.

The ability to buff yourself, cure poison and disease, along with states and being able to heal for almost 3k, is not considered good defence, I dont know what is.

No one is mentioning Master Swordsman as a complement to Master Rifleman. If you are talking melee professions, Swordsman has to be considered. I believe it is the most powerful melee profession. I can solo just about anything in PvE. Tack on Rifleman and the meditation line of TKA, and you have a very formidable template.

So if you guys had to vote on what melee profession to be what would it be?

A) Tera Kasi Master

B) Fencer

C) Swordsman

D) Pikeman

And what would you use the remaining points on?
