I hear alot of rifleman talking about getting extra expierence by grouping with a pet. I was wondering If I need to be a creature handler

or if I can buy one already tamed from another player. Could anyone tell me what pets are good for hunting rancors andpickets, how

much they cost, and where I can find them. Any advice would be much apreciated. Thanks.

Grouping with a pet to get the Group XP bonus and using the pet in combat are two separate things. You can group with any Pet, even a droid and leave it in town while you go out and run your missions and you will get an XP bonus just for being in a group. If you want to usethe petin combat you would either need to spend a lot of money on a Bio Engineered Non C.H Pet or go Creature Handler, especially against things like Rancors.

I've seen B.E Non CH pets go for ridiculous sums of money, in excess of 1,000,000 credits. I'd say level C.H along side your Rifles if you can spare the Skill Points, its a great PVE solo combo as others will tell you. You might even like it so much that you may keep it. Plus you can always drop it later if need be

In response to this. Do any of you have any suggestions for pets? I don't want to go very far up the CH tree (trying to conserve skill points) and I don't want to spend a fortune, i'm on a budget. I'm just trying to get through rifleman and I realise that it is rather difficult without a pet. Any suggestions on pets?

B.E Gurrcats and Gurreks seem to be pretty popular, I think mainly because they are Fast / Small / Have decent Damage and To Hit modifiers + The DNA recipies cooked up with them are nice, but they are expensive unless you can befriend a Bio Engineer. I suggest you start sucking up to your Local B.E Immediately.. heh! Mainly because you wont get Pets of the same quality tamed in the wild without spending a fair amount of Skill Points in C.H. I don't think there are many wild pets that have light armor and / or High kinetic resistance below level 35.

I haven't been a C.H since last December so I'm a little out of it.. others may have better advice.

Non-CH BE pet's should be fairly cheap now. Any BE engineer who says they are hard to make is lying through their teeth. Unless you've given him near impossible specs. But a CL10, with approxx 3.5/3.5/1.5 HAM and some kinetic resists and maybe a couple of other resists (never more than 20%, often less than 10% ) should be cheap. When I say cheap, probably 20-40K dependant on server etc.

Oh and to-hit etc. is all in the template. Except for minimum CH level ( can't have a non-ch kimo for example ) the skin only influences the walking speed of the pet and whether it's mountable or aggressive. You can't have a non-ch BE huurton for example because their wild counterpart is aggressive.

you can get the xp group bonus from grouping a droid and leaving it in town as well.

Just thought I'd add my 2 cents. Not sure how to really reply to the xp bonus being grouped with pets. You see, I was a MCH well before I went Rifle, so I've always used my meanest pets from the beginning of novice rifleman. Yes, it made life SOOOOO much easier being grouped with level 50 or any combination levels of pets up to Level 70. Franklysince I am a casual gamer and since I did not know the good rifle grind spots, it took me longer to get MRM.

As for suggestions on a good pet, BE ones are the way to go for now, unfortunately. They are better then wild ones until you hit the uber high/rare pets. If you can get into the level 30 pets with yourCH abilities that will be a very nice combo. You defnitely want a pet that can dish special attacks since that has been finally fixed. Get a MCH to train it in all skills. If you do not want to go to level 30 pets, then try a level 25 greater sludge panther (found on Talus) or level 25 Grand Wrix (found on Correllia). I still use my level 25 grand wrix since I started CH and he has knockdown and stunning strike, still very nice. These cats also DO NOT run like some pets do, which is extremely important to us rifleman. We want a pet that will stay put and FIGHT, while we snipe the crap out of the creature.

Finally let me just conclude by saying that being MRM and MCH is a SWEEEEETTTT combo for me. I've got some medic skills as well, as a result I am a soloing PvE machine. As I hunt for my elusive bull rancor baby (CL 65, nasty disease), I can pull the bull rancor missions easily grouped with my pets (18k each) and then take out a nest in minutes averaging over 3k a hit using strafe2 on the bull rancors spawning from the lair. Absent some insane nerf the devs deal us riflemen, I am staying put with this template.

Good luck!
