Thread: Question about Balance and equalness to other classes

Recently a friend (Teras Kasi in training) and myself both hit Novice in our chosen profession at roughly the same time. Now comes the question...

When out training, my friend can virtually kill things I would not dream of being able to do, and he can drop them with considerable speed. We recently went on a few hunts for Pickets last night, he would tank them, and I would shoot from afar.

Each Picket usually ended up getting me roughly 1-2k, and each picket ended up getting him roughly 2-5k, which in my opinion is a huge difference.

So my question is... will Rifleman evercatch up damage wise to what Unarmed Combat can do at lower levels?

Are their things I could do to improve the damage I am doing and keep up with him.

I'm currently 0/0/0/1 in RIfleman, I am qualified for the 1st level and as of yet have not picked which tree I wish to pursue (suggestions?)

Thanks in advance...

Are these two classes equal at Novice level? No.

Should they be? Maybe.

Are they intended to be equal at Novice level? Who knows?

What the deal is: Your friend will continue to outdamage you in this way for quite a while longer. At Master, you will see a huge change, but maybe not at all until then. Riflemen are quite weak (to put it mildly) until Master level. At least when compared to most other combat classes.

However, we can be the most powerful once masters given the proper equipment. I consider this to be a fair balance as the road is much rockier, but the reward makes it worth the while. Try to watch out for some speed SEAs (totalling around +7 or +8 rifle speed)- they will be needed at Master to reach your full potential and are nice to have while levelling as well.

As for your first box, I'd reccomend accuracy for now ifyou intend to hang out with your friend most of the time. If you'll be soloing much, get Concealshot instead. Alternatively, you could head up to Flushingshot 2 (though it's in the 3rd box of its tree). When you get it though, you will find yourself able to deal lots of damage to multiple targets providing you have a tank to draw aggro away from you.

Is that all you need for now? Hope that helps.

You would be amazed at how many friends I have who disagree with that. I don't think they have any idea how god awful long and boring it is to master rifle! I did one of the pistol trees in about 25% of the time it took me to gain a rifle tree....

Anyway get conceal shot first. It's slow and you will be bored but as you gain XP get the 3rd tree to flushing shot 2 so you can hit large numbers of creatures. Then let your TKA friend attack the animals while you hit all of them at once with your T21. XP goes up a lot more quickly at that point.
