Thread: How much Rifleman is enough?

Quick question and please don't crucify me for being a dabbler I'm a Commando/CH who is forced to solo a lot due to family, job, etc. One of the big drawbacks of Commando is the lack of armor piercing. Our only armor piercing weapons are disposable and ridiculously expensive and hard to find.

I've been running into a lot of medium armor mobs lately and was wondering if picking up a few boxes of rifleman would help? I'd drop a bleed (launcher pistol), flame DoT, and then pull out the T21 to punch through the medium armor. Is this viable? If so, how much Rifleman would you suggest I get, at a minimum, and which boxes? Thanks a lot for the replies!

You have to understand, the reason we don't recommend dabbling in rifleman has nothing to do with pride. It has everything to do with that +20 rifle speed at the very, very last step. The guns are all so slow that any dabbling is going to be sub-per against dabbling in other ranged profs, even considering AP.

I'm trying to see how you can get any, but I just don't see it being possible. There are too few skill points to be master commando/CH, so I'm assuming you're something like 0440 commando and4400 CH?

If that's the case, then you have 33 skill points to put towards riflemen. In my opinion, you'll want to get a little speed and a little accuracy with an area attack. You will have enough points for 3004 riflemen. You'll be fairly accurate with sniping 3 and master marksmen, you'll be fairly fast with rifle abilities 4 and master marksmen, and you'll have an area attack with flurry shot 2.

All that said, the standard disclaimer is riflemen is about the worst "dabbling" profession in the game and you will be fairly ineffective, even daresay incompetent compared to a master riflemen.

Rifleman is one of the professions that you have to master to get the full benefit. I was amazed at the difference between a 4/4/4/4 Rifleman and a Master Rifleman when I made it. If you just want to solo MOBs and don't care how long it takes, then I highly recommend being a 4/1/X/X Rifleman. (The second branch has Concealshot, I believe.) Using that setup, you should be able to solo almost anything in the game....provided that you're patient and you don't care too much about losing loot. If you want the AoE attacks, go for X/X/3/X Rifleman to get Flushingshot2.

Thanks again for the replies I suspected that dabbling in rifleman wouldn't pay off as big as I'd hope. I have a master doctor friend who dabbled in rifleman about8-10 months ago.Hedid some research and was given similar advice. I just hoped that things had changed since I quit back in the fall

One more question... would dabbling in carbineer and using a laser carbine (medium AP) be a better solution?

I'd say so. Much better than Rifleman in any case

No its how MUCH Rifleman, how many rifleman makes no sense. Second, WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING AS A CH!!!! I was a CH and it sucks, you can't do **edit**, in PvP and in PvE unless you have an Uber pet, they suck. Do Master Rifleman, well not any more, the nerf bat it on deck so hell do Carbineer. Wait till CH get fixed then pick i up again.
