Thread: What should a rifleman use in pvp...and I saw this one rifleman....
The guy you saw was probably a master rifleman, and firing strafeshot2 at close to the speed cap. That pretty much owns most faction NPCs.
As previously stated, you can go prone, then take cover and the tumbling status will not be applied, allowing for special attacks.

Once you are in cover, you can use the Conceal Shot to fire without your opponent noticing you. Doesn't do alot of damage, but if they cant see you, they cant kill you.
Taking cover adds to your ranged defenses. It unfortunately does not add anything to your success in landing conceal shot above the bonus you receive for beingprone. Conceal shot works indefinitely as long as you do not stick a dot (including the random bleed) or miss twice in a row.
In PVP, taking cover or going prone means death for the riflemen. Going prone provides an accuracy bonusand taking cover provides a small ranged defense bonus, but also provides ample opportunityfor an opponent to walk up to you and take advantage of the 1.5X damagemultipileragainst non-standing opponents.
The guy you saw killing the faction NPCs was properly using cover to his advantage. Most PVE opponents are creatures that do not use ranged attacks. Faction NPCs however do use ranged attacks, so this is one of the few useful situations for taking cover and getting the added range defense bonus it provides.
