Get an adv R3 with 1 Combat module and 5 repair/healing modules. No reason not getting full resists (20% but is listed as 40 % a bug). Don't know the rating you would need but is is dependant on the resources on your server.

Some might recommend adv probot but R3 has higher HAM (both can have the same healing - Adv R3 can have 6 modules but one is needed for combat module.. 5 modules in Probot but has built in combat module).

Love my tanking droid.

what can you tank with it?

I've pretty much felt that anything that actually needs to be tanked (vs. conceal or head-shot to death) would chew up one of those droids too quickly to make it worthwhile.

The ability of the droid depends completely on the modules put in them. So there isn't one name for the best droid. You could find two different droids with the same abilities based on how they were made and the modules.

There are three basic chasis that you will find for tanking. The LE, the Probot, and the R3. There are also some advanced versions of these. The advanced versions have more 'slots' in them for modules.

The Probot usually has the best attack damage, the LE the best HAM, and the R3 is in the middle.

If you want max resists and HAM rates I would suggest check out the DE boards. They should have it posted and should be able to answer your specific questions.

Tank droids work great against large numbers of low & mid range mobs (eg I used one to master Rifle, using them againsta Huurton Huntresslairs). Against high level mobs however (NS Elders, Krayts etc) they are pretty useless as you cant kill the mob fast enough before the droid is incapped, however it may give you a 30secs -1min of breathing space to bring its HAM down with SS2.

Max repair powerper module installed on the droid is 20, so a Tank R3 can heal a max of 100ham per 15 secs (can carry 1 combat & 5 Repair Modules), an LE Repair can only carry 1 Combat and 2 Repair modules (so max repair power is 40). A Probot can carry 5 and doesnt need a combat module as is classed as a combat droid. However the power of Autorepair can be difficult to max, so most of the time you find them at 17-19 power

Max HAM Values are LE Repair - 6k HAM,R3 - 4.5k HAM &Probot -3.2k HAM. Whatever droid you get, try and get one with almost max HAM.

Remember to buy a crate of batteries (auto repair modules drain power fast) if you are going to use tank droids, along with Repair Kits (Ds are the best), to repair any damage they take between battles.

A little known fact about autorepair modules-they will also heal any friendly droid within a 15m range, so if you have friends with them as well, all the tank droids will heal each other as well, extending there life. I think about 10+ R3 Tank droids will be almost invincible as they will heal each other constantly for about 1k HAM per 15 secs!!! (at least until the batteries run out)

This info will help you get the best tank droid, and not get ripped off with cruddy stuff.

If you need one or not really depends on what you are going to hunt with them, if you are still grinding or are doing terminal missions its well worth getting one.

It can tank well against most Dant mobs. But when you get 3 voritors (at least the tougher versions) attacking it ham goes down quickly. So kill them as quickly you can.

The benefit of the R3 over LE is that you can have more modules = more healing power so it probably survive longer than LE. Probot only do ranged combat, LE only melee and with R3 you can choose which (but it often choose self).

Get the best HAm and repair modules possible and put all healing modules that can fit. But you need at least 1 combat module (not needed for probot) or the droid will run away when attacked

I use an LE Repair Droid...and the reason is simple.

While auto-repair is nice, it simply doesn't repair enough or fast enough. Its great that my droid can heal 40 points of dmg every 15secs, but that isn't adequate, unless I am fighting Durni's

So I chose the droid with the highest HAM, and will just use alot of Droid Repair Kit D's.

Droids are good for anything up to Janta's or mid level Nightsisters. R3's are good, but watch them as they like to switch to Ranged mode intermittantlyand that leaves you wide open. LE's are pure melee and high HAM, so they won't leave you hanging, but drop whatever it is FAST or your droid is toast.

FS Mobs on Dantooine and high level Nightsisters, you might as well bring a broom and trash bag.

Against a DJK or DJM NPCs, fuhgettaboutit, just leave the molten pool of metal where it lay.
