Hi there Riflepeople 
I just made the follwoing test for a question on the WS board and I though you guys might find it interesting aswell. Apologize if this has been tested before
The obejct of this test was to figure out if it was worth it using a much Lower CL rifle because of the Damage type, when fightinh people using PSG's Heres is the result so far
I tested this on a testsubject wearing a 1921 PSG and a Recon amour with the following stats Kinetic4952 Energy 6952. He has the follwoing defences +185 Melee, +205 Ranged, +50 Pistol Defence
I used the Following 2 Weapons for the test
1. Tusken Rifle (Kinetic Damage, CL 40)
Speed 2.67 (Pupped 2.97)
Dam 360-887 (Capped) (Pupped:468-995)
SAC 82
Unsliced
2. Heavy Lightning Rifle (Energy, CL 54)
Speed 2.62 (Pupped: 2.92)
Dam 500-1144 (Pupped: 651-1295)
Elemental Damage 40
SAC 82
Sliced
I tried 2 different shot on my target Ranged and Critical shot none of the critical hits did critical damage so the result should be consistant.
Heres what I found out
Ranged shot: 188 with Rifle 2, 269 with Rifle 1
Critical Shot: 344 with Rifle 2, 511 with Rifle 1
In conclusion it seems that it is indeed a good idea to get hold of a tusken Rifle if you want to pvp against people using PSG's
Im trying to get a test subject with battle armour and a jedi with PSG to make the test even more telling

Second part of my test shows the following:
Tested it again on another test subject with the following specifics:
Melee defence +130, Ranged Defence +80, Unarmed defence +75 Battle Armour 6k (both to Energy and Kinetic)
Used ranged shots an critical agian and I didnt have any critical shot so testresults should be consistant.
The result is as follows:
Ranged Shot: 221 with Rifle 2, 248 with Rifle 1
Critical Shot 415 with Rifle 2, 472 with Rifle 1
So in conclusion the Kinetic Rifle still beats the Energy one even though its 14 less in CL
Oh I might want to mention that all tests were done with the pus on to simulate a pvp situation

Have you considered trying these tests with a good kinetic rifle, LD1 maybe?

well, being a WS I used waht I myself was able to create (and the sac is much better on the Tusken 
)
But that being said the same results as shown above should apply to the LD1 Rifle just with a higher damage output

I usually just keep an eye on whether my target is wearing assault, battle, or recon armor. Against assault, I use a T21 or my flamethrower (I'm also a master commando). With battle, I use my bowcaster because it is my best overall weapon, and because the kinetic damage will cut through a PSG if they are using one. Against recon armor, I again go with the bowcaster.
In general, having a variety of options is good. I would say that kinetic is slightly more preferable overall due to the prevalence of PSG use in PvP.

This sounds about right, comparing a 440-1070+ dmg T21 or 568-1140 HLR to a 496-988 dmg Hyper Rifle or 550-980 puped Tusken, the Hyper Rifle does more noticable damage against someone with a PSG. I was doing roughly 350 damage with the HLR while with the Hyper I was doing around 650.

Did the same sorta test.
Was getting 3x the damage using a uber bowcaster vs a capped laser on a recon'd PSG'd opponent.
Kinetic is superior to energy in almost every situation.

Are you sure this is correct? Recon armor with higher kinetic resists than energy?

Oh seems I am the one that messed up silly me. Doesnt change the fact that the kinetic wepaon is still better towards the psg though. I need to test this on assault armour I guess, at least agaoinst 2 out of 3 armours ingame with PSG the CL 40 wepaon is still the weapon of choice

But don't PSGs lose their effectiveness after the first few shots?
