Thread: Flurry vs Suppression?
they're useless against creatures right now - (afaik). i've never posture changed/knocked down a creature.
flurry causes dizziness, supression tries to force posture down - which on an npc should cause a knock down. Flurry2 is Area of Effect (multiple targets).
get flushing1 + 2 for creatures. (or just use headshots).
on a side note, i'm not surewhy you'reso hard on the people posting tips about using pets to Xp - there is no other way that is as efficient - don't blame the players, blame the devs.

Both shots do damage, but both also have other unique side effects on the target.
Neither side effect is guaranteed on any one shot... that is, it may take several shots for one of the side effects to actually affect the target.
-- Flurry can additionally 'dizzy' the animal. When an animal is dizzy, it has a tougher time hitting you. This, to me, appears particularly effective on animals with a ranged attack. I hunt on Tatooine, and a perfect example of an animal to use this on is the 'Greater (Mountain?) Womp Rats'. They often stop 10 or 15 meters from you and spit at you, hitting all your HAM bars. If they are dizzy, they miss a lot more often.
-- Suppression fire stops the animal in their tracksfor a few seconds. This is good because it gives you a few seconds to move farther away, heal yourself, set up your next shot, ... whatever. There are two problems with this shot: 1. Like I said before, it may take several shots before it "sticks", and 2. It was nerfed a few weeks back so that it only works every 30 seconds or so.
History lesson: Suppression fire used to be the best way for rifleman to earn xp. You would fire it at a charging MOB, the MOB would stop still for like 10 seconds while you peppered him with Headshots, then you could fire it again, repeat, until MOB died. That was fairly easy XP so they nerfed it.
Suppression and Flurry do both work on animals.
RegardingFlurry, I have made animals dizzy with Flurry. The thing is, though, that while it may be true that they have a harder time hitting you when Dizzy, the primary purpose of Dizzy is to create a chance that the target will fall down upon changing posture. If they do not change posture, you are not getting the full effect of Dizzy and even then, it is only a chance of falling down, not a guarantee. And while I know you can make them dizzy, I do believe that the knockdown effect may not work with animals. But either way, it will only work on a posture change regardless.
Suppression does work with animals. I use it all the time. A typical way I will use supression is if I am being chased by a melee creature or NPC, I will switch to pistol (spraystick ifit is a ranged attacker), and fire suppression until I see them stop following me. Suppression will force them to kneel, so when they stop, I know it has taken effect. I can then either switch back to rifle, and continue attacking them or continue running to end the conflict. Warning shot can be used this same way, but warning shot causes the target to flee if it works, and sometimes, I just want them to stop, not get out of range.
I have noticed that, after being hit with suppression, many creatures or NPCs will move more slowly after getting back up, so that is a side benefit as well.
Great info. Thanks.
On the subject of me harshing on pet users - You're right, I should find some way to direct my ire against devs rather than players. My point is that pets as an overwhelming force does not come from Star Wars, it comes from the devs' previous MMORPGs. Droids, ATST - yes. Droidekas - hell yes. A rancor in your PA hall - yes. A pack of panthers, a graul mauler in your pocket- no.
What I should be doing is encouraging people to completely depend on their pets and finding more exploits. Then perhaps the devs will notice.
well, i agree that PvP pets should be nerfed. (there goes CH)....hehe
but really, it's a little out of hand. i use a GSP for xp'ing myself, i've done the grind without it, but it's incredibly tedius and slow.
just seems to be the way it is...
