welcome to the crowd. starting is hard w/ what you an use but try w/ spraystick and see if you can get it sped up. armor wise your stuck w/ recon unless you have another profession that will give you somethig else to use. when you get to 30 try to get a beam rifle ( I loved it imo). it's a profssion that probably wont rock until master or great if you group alot. soloing can be difficult make sure to build up your speed/accuracy fast. The idea is to keep distance and snipe, so don't get used to the idea of taking multiple baddies at once if there close to your level. they'll group you and turn you into landscape fast. when in a group rifles can be a great help to everyone. Tankers will keep beating on a target,but do little dam. or a long period, all you have to do is stay back and hit the specials and start dropping chunks of life off the target. If the tankers keep up the beastie won't make a mad aggro dash for you

You talk about building up speed and accuracy, how would you do that?

build up the combat skill tree's first this builds up you speed,this is even more effective if you master marksman and take the combat trees from pistol and carb also. same general ranged accuracy and rifle accuracy. Last look for CA's for accuracy and speed for your armor. Throw in some defense when you want and you'll be set. The specials are important, but if you cant hit they wont help. just look at the skill boxes and what they offer and you'll see what you need. speed keeps you firin and hittin but accuracy is where the pain is dished out. When you get pretty high you can slow down on the speed and put more to accuracy. hope this helps.

Spraysticks are pretty decent, can be slow though.
