Thread: Is damage strictly determined by the rifle?

The only other combat class that I've dealt with is TKA, and as I gained skill boxes my Unarmed Damage increased. Does this not happen with Rifleman? Is the damage I'm doing now as a Novice Rifleman going to be the same as the damage I do as a Master Rifleman? Granted, I realize that my speed will increase, and I look forward to that, but I was kind of hoping to be able to down more creatures with a single shot as I progressed. Instead it looks like I'll have to do Concealed Shots all day. It doesn't even seem like I need accuracy, because as long as I'm 50m away and prone, I rarely miss.

Ranged professions do not get a damage bonus as they progress thru the profession. The damage is only determined by the rifle, AP vs AR, and the damage multiplier on the special being used.

What you do is see which is higher, AP or AR. If they are even then it is 100% damage.

For each level that AP is higher than the AR, then there is a cummalative (think compound interest) 25% damage bonus. So it would be 125%, 156%, 195% for one step, two steps, and three steps higher.

For each level that AR is higher than AP then there is a 50% reduction. So it would 50%, 25%, 12.5% for one step, two steps, and three steps.

ops for someone else as well that suck 50% down for just AR3 vs AP2 that a good chuck out of the damage . even if it had like 50% less defence than energy u'd still be stuck to try and out damage the t21.

btw what other profs have AP3? if any

Not quite. It's going to depend on the resists too. The T21 will do 100% damage minus the resists while the DXR-6b will do 50% minus any resists.

One other thing. If the target is vulnerable to the damage type then you always do 100% damage. Regardless of AP and AR.

As for what other professions have AP3. Only Commandos. I did a break down off all the AP's and damage types available to all the professions awhile back. Here is a link.

Resists and Special Protection are the same really. Except Special Protection overrides resists if there is a conflict between the two. On armor that is sliced you can only increase the effectiveness of resists, not special protections.

Vulnerabilities are a bit different. If a target is vulnerable to a damage type, then if you hit it with that damage type it is considered to have AR0 (no armor). However your weapon is also considered to be AP0. So you will do 100% damage. In other words you combat spam and the floaty damage will be identical.

Because of the loss of the AP when attacking a vulnerability, there are times that you will do more damage with a weapon they have a resist too if you have a high enough AP.

Well i THINK that as your accuarcy goes up, obviously you miss less but im pretty sure i do more damage on a shot to shot basis....which kinda supports your TKM theory about unarmed boxes, as you would be getting more accurate also.
