Thread: Workaround for the magic 'Go prone and teleport problem'?
I have a theory as to what is happening when we magically teleport after going prone. Therefore, I have a possible workaround to pass along, but I would also like to get some confirmation from the community so that we can give the Devs something to work on to fix this.
I have been noticing that the teleportation is not random, but rather to points where I have already been. Furthermore, I believe these points are not random either, but the point at which I acquired my target before going prone. So I believe if you acquire a target, move 30 meters, then go prone, if you teleport, you will teleport back 30 meters to location where you acquired the target.
If that is true, the workaround would appear to be rather simple. Simply make sure that you reacquire your target just prior to going prone. Just hit Tab then Shift-Tab. That should shift your target to the next target then back to the one you are on. If there is only one target, left click on an empty area to clear the target, then hit Tab to reacquire your target. I have been testing this, and it seems to prevent the teleportation problem.
Please try this out and see if these observations hold true and test the workaround and see if it works for you. Let us all know if this is working. If this holds true for everyone, maybe it will help the Devs correct the problem.
Ok, now this is a reason to keep playing this game. I'd be happy to do my part and test this out over the weekend. I'll post my results on monday.
When should we be expecting our paychecks fron SOE? (just kidding...well... not really)
ok tested this weekend and your theory holds true unless you are attacking a nest. When you attack a nest the creatures still have a tendancy to appear, you target them, attack, and then they teleport right next to you.
When I tested this they teleported from prone, kneeling or standing AND it happened with my T21, Laser rifle, carbine and scout blaster.
As it stands, the only workaround I've been able to come up with is to havemy probot out to lay some smackdown on any porting MOBs.
I will start testing this in the afternoon. Just to be clear:
1. Test going into prone after acquiring a target at 80+m.
2. Test going into prone after acquiring target at 64-m.
I was hunting PvE all weekend on Lok (almost identicle terrain to Tatooine), and I had the teleport after going prone issue nearly every time. It got to be incredibly frustrating and was a running joke among my group mates. Apparently on their screens I would speedcrawl backwards 20m each time like a crab on crank.
Maybe being grouped is a part of the equation? Or having used Cover at some time in the past (I did not use /cover at all this weekend, but I have in the distand past, and my group-mates had not)... One of my groupmates was using a rifle much of the time as well, but he did not teleport at once. He is still working onmarksman-rifle skills, so perhaps it's not the rifle, it's Rifleman-proffession linked?
As for the elaboration WiA, it goes something like this:
spot target at 80-90m, target NPC.
approach to 63-64m, go prone.
initiate combat, get off one shot, teleport backwards 10-30m (now out of range)
oftentimes after teleporting backwards, I would /stand, run forward again, /prone again, fire, teleport backwards again.... it really became quite silly.
it's especially fun when, as your sig suggests, you fire at one mob, teleport backwards (out of range) while at the same time all his friends and family teleport to within 5m while you are prone and they are doing convenient 2.5x melee damage ![]()
sandblighter...
I am 3/2/2/3 in rifleman and I cannot remember ever seeing this problem (I' m not saying it hasn't happened, just that I can't remember it... but then my memory isn't what it used to be! :smileyvery-happy
. It sounds as if I should be counting my blessings! In case anyone is trying to figure out who it affects and who it doesn't, here are my "vital statistics"
--Master Marksman, Rifleman (3/2/2/3), Master Medic, some Scouting, Novice Artisan (0/0/0/0).
Typically I move to 67-62m from target (I know this because he is targeted, lol) and go prone. Depending on MOB I ususally start with MS2, MS1, Flurry or HS.
Keep in mind that I usually scout my target and try to find the "path with least obstacles" between him and me.
I have been continually testing this, and it does seem to hold true that if I acquire the target, move any direction, and go prone, that I will be magically teleported back to where I acquired the target. Thus, if I acquire a target at 70m out, move forward 20m and go prone, I will find myself 70m from the target again, back where I originally acquired it. Likewise, if I am running along and a target spawns 40m from me, if I acquire the target and move out to 60m, when I go prone, I will find myself back up 40m from the target. Acquire a target and move laterally, before moving forward and going prone, and you will not just move back, you will move back and to the side, again to where you picked up the target to begin with. The direction of movement does not seem to matter, and the ending location does not seem to be random. In the very least, it is always somewhere along the path you took to get where you went prone, not just backwards.
I have worked around this problem by using a set procedure. I acquire the target as you normally would. Use the distance meter to move to the correct distance, then before I go prone, I will break the target lock, go prone, then reacquire the target. This works very effectively. Sometimes, I will break the lock and reacquire the target before going prone, but if I do not wait long enough with no target, sometimes the effect will trigger. Both of these situations may have to do with someone else's suggestion.
Someone else mentioned that they have noticed that if you wait a few seconds before going prone after reaching your desired location, it does not seem to occur. So in both of my methods above, this delay could account for the overriding of the effect, since both my procedures above create a lapse of time before going prone. However, I have rushed up to a location, broken the target, gone prone, and reacquired the target all within a short period of time without triggering the effect, so who knows.
Has anyone else seen these things to be true?
By the way, my stats are as follows, since someone mentioned that not everyone seems to fall prey to this bug:
Master Scout
Rifleman 1301
Ranger 2030
Marksman 4404
Artisan 0002
Medic 2011
Novice Entertainer
I do not recall when I noticed this problem showing up. Someone mentioned it was at Novice Rifleman for them. Could have been for me as well, but I do not recall.
I know that there is a bug with Rifleman/Ranger combos where if you /takecover (with being prone being a requirement of this), fire on a target, then get up, you will suddenly find that you can moveno faster than a walk even while burst running. While the symptoms may be related (possibly triggered by the same set ofskill combinations), I can further state that now that since I have acquired the Sneak skill with Concealment III, I no longer fall prey to thisslow motionbug.I can /takecover and shoot without fear of the slo-mo effect, but I can still trigger the teleportation bug any time I want (not that I would want to).
