Thread: What exactly is happening to Rifleman in Pub9?

I can't seem to find it anywhere, everyone keeps saying that rifleman is being nerfed hard.. can anyone direct me or tell me what is going to be changed about our profession?

No nerf scheduled for us until the Combat Rebalance- when everyone gets nerfed (mostly )

Not sure how old this is, but here is a patch schedule released by Gary Gattis:



We've been burning the midnight oil to come up with a few more surprises. In the next 60 days you will see announcements on:



  • A Veteran's Rewards system that will allow you to earn a bunch of cool things, up to and including an exclusive starship when "Jump to Lightspeed" launches!
  • In-game leader boards.
  • New mission types for player cities.
  • A preferred "Jump to Lightspeed" beta program for existing subscribers/veterans.
  • A Character Transfer System to move between galaxies.
  • And a few other crazy things along the way!

  • Complete overhaul of the Galactic Civil War system

And then... Star Wars Galaxies: Jump to Lightspeed!!! I cannot begin to tell you how freakin' cool this is! Cinco Barnes (Design), Anthony L. Sommers (Programming) and Jeff Dobson (Art) are the three Leads, and they and their teams are doing an amazing job! We are going to be showing a lot more of this in the near future, starting at E3, so you will get to see for yourselves. All I can say is that this totally fulfills the complete vision for Star Wars Galaxies. You will live your life on the ground and do some serious adventuring in space...


We are having a blast making this game, and we hope you are having a blast playing it!

let me tell you how they are getting this info:


My guildmate's sister was talking to a friend in game that said his cousins sister-in-law was talking to a CSR's sister who said blah.


in other words no one actually knows but rumors spread fast

it has been posted by the devs many many times everywhere that one of the things which will change is the manner in which dmg is dealt to the pools. which includes mindpool.



since your targeting of the mindpool and the dmg dealt to it will be drastically reduced (as well as combat medics, BHsand everyone elses) this will sort of nerf us by default. however, they also stated in the 19 answers that they will redo the range penalties on rifles so you dont get -50 at 64m and +50 at 60m and 30 at 45m and -70 at point blank anymore. it will be more sensible.


i dont know anything about making speedcaps on rifles. they would have to do each rifle seperately , and in fact, each weapon for every single profession will have to be redone seperately if they do that, otherwise things will be incredibly imbalanced and some weapons such as spraystick for example will become completely pointless (not that they are too usefull now, but still)


next thing that is geting reworked will be armor and armor piercing mechanics. there will probobly be no more effectiveness sliced all around 90% armor, or HAM sliced 60% all around armor, which good and bed, since energy resits will be lower along with all others. granted you will go up against people taht have energy armor, but then just switch weapons, you have stun, heat, cold and acid at your disposal and no armor will be completely invulnreable to everything. so i would say by reducing armor effectiveness it will be armorsmiths that will get nerfed not us.


i have no idea what changes they are making to armor piercing and/or how they will affect us other then all armor types will be vulnreable to lightsaber dmg after the revamp.


master marksman will get some goodies, they said they will be making it much more desirable then it is (also in 19 answers)



so to recap, mind dmg and mind buffs (brandy ahrissa, canape etc. ) will no longer be as important as they are now. this is a good thing, i hope it makes a lot of the FOTM riflemen quit and go away.


your weapons will become more effective in some situations, and less so in others. things will change and you will have to play smarter instead of just AE everything for max dmg or spam headshots. you will have to learn what state effects your abilities give you and how to use em. this is good. people with ranged support and marksman mastr will have a definite edge here.
