I just need an Idea of how to use these skills effectively on NPC mobs i.e. a good combat secuence without all the "geek-babble" dmg numbers & formulas.

Tips on general survival & tactics.

something simple and effective i do is go prone at ideal range and use mind shot 2 and headshot 3s after they start bleeding, check for their resistances and such for the right weapon to use. works like a charm on anything. this is only worked for me at master lol. Another more risky but strong strategy is to just do on th run attacks using strafe shot 2. Hope this helps.

If you are closer to Novice, then work toward getting two shots:

1) Conceal Shot and

2) Flushing Shot 2

Conceal shot will allow you to hit your taget without them being able to see you. i.e., they will not attack you.. There are exceptions to this. High level creatures, such as some Rancors and Master Maulers, for example, can detect you from a good distance. But you will be able to snipe away at most creatures in relative safety.

Conceal shot is your solo hunting shot. If you are grouped, and anyone else opens fire, you can be aggro'd. Only use it if alone or with another rifleman using the same tactics.

Flushing Shot 2 is your first area effect shot. It is a very good group hunting shot... but it has some dangers too.

All area effet shots will hit everything in a narrow cone, field-of-fire up to your max range of your weapon. So if you are shooting at a group of critters at 35m, and there is a gurreck 63m away on the far side of the lair, you just nipped the cat and he will be after some hide... yours.

These two shots will get you to Master Rifle.

PS.. I Mastered Rifle without using one piece of armor. The only time I get hit is when I screw up.
