What i mean is, does the type of weapon you use or the type of creature you use it on alter combat xp. I can get plenty of rifle xp 3-5k per moob, but combat xp seems to grow real slow

Weapon choice doesn't change it, I think it's like 10% of the regular xp is combat xp. Although, there used to be a way to get only combat xp I think, I never tried it, but I think if you killed something only using some grenades or something it would give you only combat xp.
So if you fight tougher mobs that give more regular xp they will also give more combat xp.

Combat XP is 10% of the weapon XP. The exception is grenades which give Combat XP instead of weapon XP. I think with grenades you can also double dip. If you killed a MOB with only grenades then you would get the regular XP as Combat XP but you would also get 10% of that as Combat XP.

Yes, however, if you plan on using grenades, wear armor. And be buffed. They'll smack you for as much damage as they do the MoB. Hence no one uses grenades :\

Also, concerning grenades, one of the best ways to use them for combat experience is to just use them on lairs. Kill off the creatures, then toss one grenade at the lair. Kill off the next wave of creatures, then toss grenades at the lair until more creatures spawn. Kill off the last wave of creatures, and then finish off the lair using only grenades. This is probably the easiest way, and getting 4000ish combat experience from killing a lair can help speed up the skill trees that need it, but grenades are typically very very slow, so you may be better off just killing more creatures.

A creature that is worth 4000 XP would yield 4000 Weapons XP (divided up between the players and weapons used to kill it) then each player would get 10% of whatever weapons XP they received as Combat XP.
Since grenades do not have a "weapons type" for XP (i.e., there is no skill that advances due to "grenade XP"), grenades give Combat XP for their weapons XP. Thus, if I kill that crature worth 4000 Weapons XP using only grenades (good luck
), I would get 4000 Combat XP for the weapons XP and 400 more Combat XP for the combat XP that is granted as 10% of the weapons XP. That would give me a total fo 4400 Combat XP for that critter.
