'lo all.

Training up rifleman here, and I have the xp to train in the following:

Sniping 3

Or:

Concealment 1 + Counter-Sniping 1

Or:

Concealment 2

Or:

Counter-Sniping 2

Which do you folks think would be the most immediately effective in helping me get that coveted xp?

Thanks in advance.

if XP is what you're after...

get countersniping 3. dump ALL combat xp into rifle special abilities. get a melee player to tank for you.

accuracy won't matter with a tank, and the AoE shots will let the xp roll in... a million xp in an hour is not impossible.

Concealment 1 + Counter-Sniping 1

Conceal shot is worth it's weight in gold when you're leveling.

I agree with this. Get Flushing shot 2 (countersniping 3) and get a tank friend and AOE kill everything you see,the xp comes like crazy...

Right off the bat, Sniping 3 is probably the best choice. However, Counter-Sniper 3 will give you access to Flushing Shot 2, which is an amazing special attack that will help you level quick. Counter-Sniper 2 will also give you access to the DXR-6b; which is an excellent firearm. You really can't lose either way, but Flushing Shot 2 will allow you to drop lairs in no time, provided that you first send your tank in to hit the lair itself.

I don't want to downplay the advantages of certain skills:

sniping equals accuracy.

conceal 1 means big solo xp gains.

countersniping 3 is, quite simply, an xp factory... with a tank.

the fourth line, based on combat xp, is the MOST important. if you have any extra combat xp, dump it here NOW. rifle speed is the limiter for xp and for general effectiveness.

when is sniping important? when you're solo, trying to use /conceal. or in PvP.

when is conceal important? when your accuracy is good, and you're working on solo PvE xp.

when is countersniping important? when accuracy is NOT an issue, pulling aggro is null because of a tank (player or pet, but melee players are the most effective), and when you still need xp to master rifleman.

when is rifle special abilities important? always. speed = life... and death to those that wish you harm.

if you're looking at a balance of all:

favor AoE's for xp over accuracy.

favor /conceal for solo xp.

favor accuracy to make /conceal work.

since you only need concealment 1 to get the /concealshot special... grab it. ignore the rest of the line until you have xp you can't put anywhere else. every rifleman should pick up concealment 1 at some point early in their path to mastery.

if you're forced solo, then grab sniping skills.

if you have the ability to find a tank, or to use a pet effectively, then grab the countersniping AoE at tier 3.

a tank and AoE skills means massive xp quickly. sniping should really be pursued later, unless grouping or tanking is unavailable on a regular basis.

I'm sorry that the previous advice came too late, and that this is coming later... but I just finished a week and a half at work, and a day-visit from my father (usually 1400 miles away). this has been discussed before in other threads, and good advice has been offered by many levels and styles of rifle-folk. before you need a 'quick answer', you would be well advised to check similar threads that have already covered these issues.

I hope this helps.

I don't think that this fact can be emphasized enough. The most important factor for a low level Rifleman is going to be speed. Always go up in Rifle Abilities as soon as you can. The differences are drastic.

One other advantage of the Accuracy branch for the solo player. A low level Riflemans ability to hit targets in melee range is horrible. If soloing you will find yourself in this situation on a semi-regular basis. The increase accuracy will allow you to hit those close targets more often and increase your survival rate.

With a tank you can hold a target in place most of the time. So you can set up at ideal range and not worry about it nearly as much.
