Thread: Oh Crap I just figured out Q-3PO's rifle response.
Look at his answer:
Question:
4) Pistol VS Rifle Ranged Accuracy – Pistols accuracy from 64 meters seems to be equal to the rifles accuracy at 64 meters. But when moving closer to a target, the accuracy on a rifle suffers, while pistols remain the same.
Answer:
Both are equally inaccurate from max range. The difference is within maximum range.
Crap. The Devs think that NO gun can hit at 64m, the chance to hit target calculations are bugged. Since the Devs won't publish the combat calculations we have assumed they are working, but they are 100% screwed up. There response to this will be to 'FIX' the bug and make a 0% or very low chance of hitting anything with an weapon at 64m. Right now every gun is hitting much more than the devs think it will. This predicted change will add a lot of frustration. What is REALLY scary is that anyone who has played this game knows exactly what is meant by question 4 the fact that the devs don't mean they just don't understand combat at all. Devs take tomorrow off and play SWG, your too isolated from your own product. Here comes a huge raged weapon nerf when the devs figure this out...
I agree.
The real problem is that there's not enough difference in a "-50" modifier anda "+50" modifier. A master pistoleer and master rifleman seem to both hit about 95% of the time at all ranges regardless of what the modifier states.
Even saying that rifles become less accurate with range is not, in my experience, true. I don't even bother paying attention to range anymore because I can't tell a difference between my hit rate at 10m and 50m, even if the ideal range of my rifle is 50m.
When I was fighting Jaxes, I'd hit them while running while they were at -50 and I'd rarely miss. I certainly didn't seem to miss any more or less than attacking while prone at ideal range for a +50 modifier.
IMO the wording should be this:
4) We are not seeing enough difference in the hit rate for a modifier of -50 versus +50 when fighting a target. This is true of all weapons, not just rifles, but it hurts us the most. Ideal range of 50 meters is no real range advantage if this modifier is completely overwhelmed by other skills. (Or if the modifier actually does nothing.)
How high up the rifle tree are you?
Once I got to master sniping (leftmost tree with all the accuracy bonuses), I stopped seeing any difference in my hit rate. I was nailing jaxes at 20m while I was running and they were running, -50 modifier but still it was hit hit hit hit. I think I missed about 1 time out of 12, if that.
Not that I don't mind hitting all the time, but I do think that accuracy modifiers from skills are somehow totally outweighing the on-screen accuracy modifier by the time you reach master. Which is why pistols can hit with near pefect accuracy at long range. Their modifier is -50, but they have so many +accuracy skills from their pistoleer tree that it doesn't matter.
