Thread: The 'Take Cover' ability, and his friends

Okay, at Advanced Rifle (in marksman) you get the 'take cover' ability.

That's real nice.

What do you think about allowing this ability to remove yourself from the radar?

This would be great in PvP, I would think. And wouldn't cause *too* much unbalance. You'd suffer from no (or reduced with Rifleman -> Concealment Tactics) movement. You'd basically be a turret, that can move very slowly with some degree of concealment.

It would add some immseriveness, as well, such as a sniper firing a /concealshot at another player, and that player having no idea where the sniper is hidden, and thus going prone. (maybe going prone would make the player untargetable by the sniper)

Granted, I haven't really thought this out, but what do you think?

That is a terrible idea. None of you people think these things through. If Takecover were to take you off the radar, we would have invisible people all over the place from EVERY CLASS. This has to be re-thought.

Salomon... lighten up... He admitted he hadnt thought it through. The forums are for everyone, both experienced and inexperienced. At least he's putting forth new ideas. You are right.... its not a good idea, but you dont have to blast him for it.

I figured i was going light on him. I didnt realize i was being hostile at all saying that that idea has to be thought through a little more. It is a bad idea, and thusly, I told him it was. I didnt blast him.

Yeah, re-reading it the second time it didn't seem as bad.

I think it was just the way you started it off.
How about something more like... "That wouldn't be a very good idea because...." instead of "That is a terrible idea".

Apologies... nuff said.

Its a great idea, but Sal's concerns are also normal. But my take on it is quite simple. You get the take cover of advanced rifle the still work as intended, and gives a bonus to defense, and you add an upgraded take cover as a speical ability of master rifleman that erases you from the radar, unless you have the ability enhance vision, or improved shot location analysis, which is given by.......you guessed it, the fourth box of Counter-Sniping.

It would be awesome.

It's ok Wayne. I have issues with disappearing from the radar. If you read the threads on Ghillie suits, you will see some LONG posts by me.

Real Issues.

IF it is put in it should be at master rifleman, I DO NOT want the same thing that's happening to BH to happen to riflemen. If this was put in one of the skill tree you would have every man and his driod just taking that skilltree so they could stealth with thier pistol.

I happen to agree with Salomon, I don't like the stealth idea after I've thought about it a bit. It sounds so cool when you first hear it, but after playing Daoc and the balance problems in that I just hope they keep stealth out of this game.

Stealth to some degree isn't a bad thing.. The idea may not be great the concept of better/fixed conceal is good.

Lets see if SOE fixes some riflemen bugs for concealment, then we cancommenton the need to have more/less of it.

I'd like to have a guile suit to improve concealment not to simply disappear all together. Plus it would look cool as a clothing item that is a distinct identifier to the riflemen profession. Sorta like Boba Fet's armor is synonymous with bounty hunter.

No i think it is a good idea. You guys are actually taking the radar for granted... you think all other MMORPG's with PVP have a radar? I think not!

No.

1. Make it so take cover gives you a ranged defence bonus. Scale the defence bonus to your level of concealment (you get +20 every block).

2. Make it so every +20 to concealment adds a small percentage to your camoflauge skill (scout tree).

3. Make conceal shot a pre-attack that allows you to use conceal shot with any other non-AOE rifleman attack.

Those are the 3 things that need to be done to take cover and conceal shot. They would bring our class up to par in PvE combat (compered to carbineers, pistoleers, and BH's who all get knockdown). Not only that, but they make sence and wodnt over balance us. Instead, they would be a defining skill for rifleman.

As is conceal shot and take cover are living up to 10% of their potential. They look to have been thrown in at the last minute without any testing or balancing. Fits right ino the rest of the sloppy job that SOE gave rifleman.

Yeha tek it does appear they didn't put much analysis into riflemen profession. I guess we'll see if it improves over time.
