Thread: On Bounty Hunters

Everyone knows that BH's own and that their main argument as to why they should is time and skill points needed to get there.

But, as a rifleman grinding my way up the tree, I realized something, this is only true up to a certain point.

Yes, at novice, a BH has had to aquire much more xp than a rifleman or any other combat profession for that matter. So yes they should be great. But what about at MASTER.

Well lets look at the numbers.

First it takes only 70,800 (including marksman)combat xp to master BH while it takes 415,000 combat xp to master any other combat profession.

Now a BH might say that sure we don't have lots of combat xp requirements in out tree, but we still need lots of weapons xp and you get both at the same time so its not like you have to do anything extra to get that combat xp.

So lets look at total weapons xp (including the marksman tree).

A BH need 3,880,000 weapons xp to master BH.

But guess what, any other profession needs 3,896,000 weapons xp to become master.

And the best part of all is that 3,896,000 weapons xp is only equal to approx. 396,00 combat xp, STILL NOT 415,000 like is needed so the discrepency is even larger.

And sure, we could take on different combat professions to make us stronger, but then the number get ridiculous as I am sure you could imagine.

So my question is, why is it that someone that spends less time in combat is a more profcient killer than someone who spends more time in combat, and with a single weapon as opposed to a split among 3 weapons for that matter??

Any thoughts?

cos all the devs are BH prof?

I think the BH argument is invalid.. they dont even need to be master to beat any other prof easily.. they only need their first carb skill box for knockdown and up to the 2nd pistol BH box for eyeshot.. not hard really..

In order for us to compete we tend to have to be master in order to gain the speed increases... thats a shed load more work... those combat exp requiring boxes in the 4th tree take bloody ages.

ELITE MILITARY TRAINING but hey Bounty hunters... .basically Mercs..... way better..... devs screwed up.

ya a master rifleman lying prone at 64m. First shot not a kill? you can get knocked down from your PRONE position. IMHO if your prone you should not be subject to knockdown. Can you be knocked to kneeling from prone???

As an expert bounty hunter, let me make a proposition to you riflemen. First off, after becoming a master rifleman, put the remainder of your skill points into Image Designer. This will leave you with afew more skill points than bounty hunters have left after they become masters...this will also ensure that you can't do anything crazy, like, oh say, become a master combat medic (which is extremely freaking useful). Then you'll be on the same playing field as a bounty hunter without any ability whatsoever to become adept at another profession. Once you do this, then feel free to complain about how BHs do more damage than you...or, if you prefer, just become a bounty hunter if you think they're such a better class. Either way, stop whining.

So you're saying that when I take my Master Scout/Master Marksmen/Master Rifleman onto the battlefield I should get my ass beat becausethe Bounty Hunter profession isn't as customizable?

AS a BH in training (23k combat xp from novice!) and a novice pistoleer, my thoughts are this. If a Master Pistoleer and a Master BH were to fight using ONLY pistols.....the MP should win most of the time. Now if they are free to use anything at their disposal, the BH should win most of the time.

Now, I am assuming in this hypothetical fight that:

a) this fight is consensual

b) the pistoleer in fight 2 is ONLY a pistoleer, not also a commando, CH, etc

c) they start at a decent range, maybe ideal for pistol fiving the BH leeway to move around.

As I always say, the 217 points to be a MBH are ALL focused toward that goal. Rifleman can become masters of another weapon or more to augment combat skills, or forgo that and become artisans and do other things. They both should still have equal interaction within SWG, but classes in combat shouldn't be equal. That makes no sense.

Make the pistol/carbine/rifle you get (or should get) as a master rifle/carbine/pistol user MUCH better than the BH or Novice Pistoleer/C/R weapon and you will see improvements in combat.

Yup thats what they are saying Hoabob. BH must = win or this is not SW!

I don'tmind so much if aMASTER BHgets an advantage because theyhave used a lot of points,What I don't understand is whysomeone who has ONE tree of BH should have this advantage.

I'm not sure how to word this since you didn't uderstand what I said previously but I'll try.

If you take a Master Bounty Hunter and use those last 33 points in Pistoleer you will be better with a pistol then the Master Pistoleer even though you haven't mastered that tree, it doesn't make sense but that's my point.

Yes, you're right if someone specced in Pistoleer and the BH pistol line they'd have one powerful character.

The problem is that it doesn't work both ways.If someone wentPistoleer and then the BH Pistol line they'd need to spend 80 some points (60 for Scout & 20 for the Pistol line but I wont count Master Marksmen which would make 100) while the Bounty Hunter spends 33 additional pointsto get the same effect. The pistoleer ends up with 13 points left over in the end which will only buy one box in a new profession so is better spent in making them more like BH Jr. The prerequisites for BH are more of a gate for people who want to dabble in BH then the other way around.

But Pistoleers training in BH just to keep up with Bounty Hunters isn't really just an indirect problem. The real problem is a profession that gets a ranged knockdown (with DoT), that can target multiple health bars, and out damages Riflemen at their ideal range in their specialty damage. I have yet to find another combination of professions that can equal that with the more "versatile" templates.

that same reasonining works the other way around, what about a pistoleer that took up bounty hunter and learned all 4 BH pistol line, that would be one unstoppable character..........
