Thread: Master Weaponsmith looking for advice....

Heya Riflemen!!

I love rifles. I love going prone, sneaking up on my target, and BAM!!! One shot, One kill. The power of a Rifle is almost unmatched. Truly an amazing weapon.

I've just hit master weaponsmith. Instead of lurking around the weaponsmith boards, complaining about the merchant nerf, or selling things for outrageous prices on the Trade forums, I thought I'd take some time and get a bit of advice from you snipers.

I'd like to be as good as I can be at weaponsmith. I don't wanna be rich, or famous. I just wanna make great weapons.

But to do that, I need some input from you as to what you look for in a Rifle.

Could you perhaps give me some feedback on any problems you've ever experienced using a rifle? Things you look for in a weapons. How I can make them more effective. Is range an issue? HAM costs? Accuracy modifiers?

Basically, any guidance you could give me would be much appreciated. I can always go to the weaponsmith boards and learn about resources and components, but I'd rather hear what the riflemen say. We may build them, but you guys are the ones who gotta use em!!

Thanks again for your input! please don't shoot me.

well this is somethingI like to see.

In pvpthree things work best for us rifleman.. Accuracy, Damage, Range. (in that order)

In pve we prefer High damage Low HAM (this order as well)

speed is not really an issue so it is best to experiment in ways that give other stats vs speed

PVP:

Range = we have a better band where we are more accurate

Damage = things die faster

Accuracy = we hit defence templates more often

pvp generally resides with three weapons with us. Te venerable jawa, the Awe inspiring T-21, and the astonishing DXR6-b

PVE:

High Damage = things die faster!

Low Ham = Hunt longer without buffs

the Laser Rifle, the T-21 and the DXR6-b are probably our favorite PvE rifles

I appreciate the offer, but I don't really need stats. I can find stats by shopping around from low-end to high-end. I'm just looking for input on improvements that can be made with existing weapons (such as "i'm looking for speed" or "the mind-cost is too high"). I want to develope weapons that people can appreciate. Chances are, the weapons you already have were maxxed on Damage and Speed. If I can find other holes, such as accuracy, HAM costs, and durability, I can improve on existing designs, and make better weapons for a much much much lower cost.

the only thing i would add is that there is a market forspeed and acc +s especialy in the T21 and lazer markets.

Most people use primaraly these 2 to grind out rifleman and befor master speed and acc is an issue.

Before the switch delay was put in, people liked to use E-11s experimented for accuracy to land state effects since the DXRs are a bit pricy for some people(and somewhat heavy on the HAM). Dunno if the market is still there at all, but it's something to think about.

For PVE I could care less about damage and accuracy so I usually go with ham costs and speed (preferrably sliced).

For PVP damage, accuracy and condition since most of the time in PVP you'll end up popping on a powerup often.

I saw you post the same question in the BH forum, to answer you on the BH weapons, I'd say similar though for the LLC the ham costs is my priority then it's the speed or accuracy

PVE (T21s and DXR6bs):

Damage: More important than anything, by far.

Condition: convenient, but not a primary concern.

Speed: Completely unimportant. I'm speed capped, it could be 10000 speed and I still wouldn't care.

HAM costs: Don't care either. I'm always buffed for PVE.

Accuracy: Not very important, since you don't miss much in PVE.

PVP (Jawas):

Damage: Still more important than anything

Condition: Don't care much, you don't fire PVP weapons as much as PVE ones. Even a def stacker dies a lot quicker than a krayt

Speed: Again, completely unimportant.

HAM costs: Possibly important. If I'm caught unbuffed, it could matter. Then again, if I'm caught unbuffed, my chances of winning a fight are...minimal. Still, it's nice to at least offer a little resistance. Honestly not that big a deal, to be honest I prefer to carry low ham rifle to use if and only if I'm caught unbuffed. Even unbuffed, I can still pop mind food/drink.

Accuracy: Pretty important here. Players tend to have much better defenses than mobs.

I go through PVE T21s faster than anything else, followedby DXR6bs. Jawas last quite a while. This has a couple of implications. First is that because I go through them so quickly, I'm generally not willing to pay all that much for T21s or DXR6bs (meaning, I'm certainly not going to waste money on a krayt one). I really don't get much of a return on buying a really expensive T21 or DXR6b. For a really nice jawa on the other hand, I'll pay big money.

well i just started a new toon... so i asked my local WS to buld me a dtla20... he had the 20b's on his vendor, but at novice ya can't use them... the stats he made on the 20 were the exzact same as the 20b... both were stocked so the ham is a lil higher but not bad at all... the nice thing is the damage is actully better than that for an e11 (minus the AP)...

what i'd like to see is a nice E11... other than that give me DAMAGE for a T21... the more the better... HAM isn't really an issue (for now)... after that use the rest of the exparimentation in the accuracy... i'm PvE mostly so thats all i'm really looking for... i'm speed caped up to an 8.0 rifle so speed doesn't matter to me...

i've never been a fan of the laser too big of a range in min/max... i like consistanty (sp?) in the hits... i don't like the drx6b (its sound annoys me)... but the cold rifle (forget the name)thats cool just cause ppl never see one... i'v also seen a few ppl asking for spraysticks... last night i sliced them for like 4 diff ppl (the closer the range the better, then damage, speed isn't an issue)...

a jawa is a jawa... haven't seen alot of difference in them, kryted are a lil better (i have 2) but no big difference (70 max dam tissues)...

Damage heavy T21's are always coveted for PvP and PvE. There's almost an over abundance of Speed-sliced(though that is the nature of slicing)or Speed-built T21's. These T21's are fine for disposables, but the point is that Riflemen want high-damage stuff above all else, as that is where our power lies. I know that on my server, the split second a high-damage T21 appears on a vendor...it's gone...no questions asked. I know the WS/Smuggler can't necessarily control this, but aside from accuracy for PvP encounters, I think that high damage is what most of us go for. If you could consistently produce high damage T21s, Jawas, and Disruptors..you'd get your rep as being a quality WS..and make some nice cash on the side.

What a person looks for in a rifle kind of depends on what they are going to use it for.

Damage is always important.

Speed is also imporatant especially on the T21 which generally has a higher base speed.

Range really isn't an issue.

Accuracy not much of an issue except in PvP where a very high accuracy weapon is vital for sticking states on defensive stackers.

HAM costs aren't much of an issue right now because of buffs. However they may again be an issue depending on how the new HAM system works.

Also all those are for Master Riflemen. For the non-Master the main issue is Speed.

speaking as a leveling Rifleman (2/0/2/1 currently) I have to say the actual cost of the weapon as well as the HAM cost is a major factor.

even when buffed(dancer and musician) with brandy I can still drain my mind ham quite quickly especially when using headshot 3 and flurry shot on a T-21.

I currently have 2 T-21's one is stocked and damge sliced with a speed of 8.0 and lowered HAM. the other is speed sliced

i also have a DXR6B and a damage sliced las rifle.what you might like to do is get very friendly with a smuggler that is willing to slice a shed load of weapons for you.

but to save yourself so bother, if you stick to T-21's, las rifles and DXR6B's you should be fine.
