Thread: Right tool for the right job.
well actually, if you notice bleeds do not take ap into effect so, you might want to check and see if your laser is actually better than t21 for bleeds.
as for up close and personal, honestly up close rifles dont help, most people like to use a spraystick up close because of its fast rate of fire, to spam warning shot, and it has the least negatives at close range.
As the last person said, switch weapons up close. With the 2.5x melee dmg modifier, you don't want to use a rifle. Hell a CDEF pistol gives you a better chance of killing ANYTHING up close than a rifle does the way it is. Honestly, to be effective you really should have a tank. Creature Handler is basically required if you plan to do any soloing of high level mobs. (Most high level mobs are social and spawn in groups, so you can't just conceal shot them very easily) Send pet in, have it hit everything once, spam AE shots. Easiest ways are take pistol or a melee profession, or take CH for a tank. It's just that the melee is useless PvP, and why take pistol for PvP when you can have a pet out as well? (Rifle AND pet dmg stack, being good with a pistol doesn't help if you're using your rifle)
I hate how dependant everyone has to be on creatures in this game, but let's face it, the way it is CH is the easiest, most powerful class to combo with for ANY fighting profession.
I disagree with VDog somewhat. You do NOT have to have a pet to level or have fun. I guess it depends on where you find your enjoyment. I am 4/2/4/3 rifleman and have never had a pet (though I may get one some day just to try it out).
Honestly, I have a blast playing rifleman without a pet. Everytime I pull the trigger for my first shot I know if I don't handle it just right, I have the chance of incapping or dying. But I also know if i do it right, I will own that creature, and his XP and his hide will bemine. Winning on my own terms is much more fulfilling to me. I have posted this before, but I don't get tired of saying it. Strategy rocks. I have to pick my starting point carefully to avoid as much warping as possible. I have to pick my rifle carefully to conserver mind, yet land the most effective shots. I have to switch weapons effectively to improve my chances each attack.
Or I could just get a good pet and sit up in the bleachers and pull the trigger.
Just my opinion, but I'm also rather proud of the fact I have leveled so far without a pet. Does it take longer? Hel, yah! But I'm not conviced I'll have more fun at master than now. Will it be easier at master? Hel, yah! But will it be more fun than now? Don't know yet. Just know I'm having fun now.
