My initial tests suggest otherwise.

I have so far shot durnis, scavenger rats, and Rogue Bagerasets, using a variety of rifles (T21, Laser Rifle, E11, and DLT20a). My tests so far indicate that the damage I am doing vs. these critters is back to what it was prior to the 10/8/03 patch.

Prior to the 10/8/03 patch, the RAF for a T21 vs. a Rogue Bageraset (AR0, 20% Energy Resistance) would have been:
RAF = [(1.25)^3] * (0.80) = 1.5625

Test data below, taken from about 10 minutes ago:

Base Floaty RAF
------------------------
466 730 1.567
528 826 1.564

I have also shot up some scavenger rats and some durni. In both cases, I got the Armor Piercing Damage Bonus for shooting an unarmored critter with an AP3 weapon.

I still need to find some Violent Krahbu or some Gronda to do further tests, but the initial results look promising.

One thing to note, however: The killing blow damage is still being reported as "amount removed from critter" instead of "amount done to critter." In other words, if a critter has 11 points of Mind left and you shoot it for 20 points of Mind damage (which would kill it), the Floaty Damage will report 11. (Prior to the 10/8/03 patch, it would have reported 20.)

This may imply that you can no longer hit targets into negatives, just to 0. The floatie is client-based, and it's just what the client sees as the difference from the last time it updated. In most cases this isn't a big issue, but it might be an issue with CH pets (before, you could hit pets into negatives and have them spend a LONG time recovering - I believe if you use the pad to restore them they take a vitality hit).

AH HA! I KNEW my pets didn't die... I was wondering what was going on...

I haven't done any calculations, but with numbers like 3600 floating above the heads of my enemies, I couldn't doubt that AP is back to where it was before.

I'm still cynical if this means a change like this will be in our future or not.
