I'm sorry, but I'm a novice rifleman so be patient with me. Right now I'm 0/0/0/0 in rifleman...how do I bleed something? Is thisa special ability I get as I climb the impossible rifleman tree?

mindshot1 and mindshot2 are both bleeds, with mindshot2 being more powerful. you get mindshot1 in the marksman rifleman tree, and mindshot2 somewhere in the sniping accuracy tree(tier 2 i believe)

A few details.

When you bleed something, it gets three red droplets in the pop up health/mind/action bar. The bleed does not damage on the first hit, but, takes 15-20 seconds to hit, then hits once every 15 to 20 seconds after (read 20, mine seem to tick at 15:] ).

The two different bleeds (one in marksman rifle tree, one in sniping riflemans tree box 2) stack, meaning if you use one of each, they will both damage the monster.

Using a bleed after a creature already has that affect (using two mind shot 1s, for example) will reset the timer on the bleed (how long it will last) and the higher damage one will be what counts for damage.

Armor pierce, armor, and resist do not matter for bleed shots. The number that counts is the one that shows in your combat screen (damage before modifiers have been applied).

A bleed does not count if the target blocks or evades the bleed shot.

You need to be within 80 meters of a creature that dies from bleed to get experience. You also must hit it with a non bleed shot before you get expierce for killing it.

If you use another weapon to damage it or if someone else (including a pet) attacks it with a non bleed shot, they will get partcial credit for the kill based on the non bleed damage they do against the non bleed damage you do.

Experience is divide up like this. Say a creature will give 4000 exp. You bleed it and hit for 100 with rifle 50 with an axe. A pet hits it for 50. A friend hits it for 500. Total non bleed damage is 700. You get 100/700 *4000=571 rifle. Your friend gets 500/700*4000=2857. You also get 50/700*4000=285 axe exp.

Hmm, hope that all made sence.

Slight correction. If the critter evades, blocks, counterattacks, etc, the bleed still works.

In my experience you must also do non-bleed damage to the mind pool to get credited with the kill. I also think this additional non-bleed damage must be significant for it to count. Usually a single head shot will do, but on occassion this fails me as well.

Box one in sniper. They stack, btw, so shoot both. What I do on mid level mobs is fire off the MS1;MS2;peace sequence while prone, then rise to kneeling (done at extream range). Get ready and fire off headshots right after the critters first bleed tick hits and I have dropped many largethings right there or the second shot. Sometimes I can time an aim and headshot right when the first bleed hits after you get the timing down

The reason I kneel is I have learned it takes a tad too long to get up from prone when things go awry...

I never use mind shot with my bleeds and as long as I am in the 80 meter range (used to be 70) I get the exp. Also, there are many times when the normal shot I use only hits once or twice, and I still get the exp (so, not sure what significant damage is).

As for evades/blocks, I have checked several times and have never seen an evade/block land a bleed. Could be a bug or my bad luck, but, I have looked at my logs several times and found that to be true.

If it dies and all you had hit it with is a bleed (last night I got a 1k then a 800 point bleed) you will not get any exp. If you hit it with a sword on the next shot ALL exp is granted to the sword. I follow up with HS to keep theexp in rifle.

Sorry skinner, that post was in reply to a comment that you needed to use mind damage to get exp. You are correct that you need some sort of non bleed damage, I just had posted that above in the thread and failed to post it again in my reply.

I'm certain that SOME of the various damage avoidance checks are ignored by bleeds. Perhaps the two you name are different. I will pay attention and note the ones that prevent the bleed. I have yet to see any do that, however.

I think you meant head shot, not mind shot? What I'm saying is that you need to do significant MInd damage to get the xp. I recall hitting with mind bleeds, then landing a normal attack on health, and received no xp. Perhaps your normal attacks hit the mind pool in those cases?
