I have no idea if this is just some made up stuff or not, can anyone confirm? I like the sound of it though, makes more sense than just a FLAT out 2.5x damage just because you are holding a rifle....

Combat Changes coming up next publish (not the one on test center)

DAMAGE MITIGATION ABILITIES:

All melee/ranged classes get a new ability called damage mitigation.

There are 3 of these abilities for ranged, and 3 for melee. These will limit the range of damage that can be done to you.

Example:

If you are hit with a melee weapon that does 1-100 points of damage and you have melee damage mitigation 3, the damage range we actually use becomes 1-40. This is because melee damage mitigation 3 limits the operative damage range to 40% of the original value.

Level 1 damage mitigation limits damage to 80% of the range

Level 2 damage mitigation limits damage to 60% of the range

Level 3 damage mitigation limits damage to 40% of the range

This change was added to work with the new creature damage/hitpoint baseline that is being defined by Keldarin(Dave)

MELEE DAMAGE PENALTIES:

These have been removed. There is no more 2.0x/2.5x/whatever damage multiplier when using ranged weapons. Instead you will simply be easier to hit. This will vary based on the attacker/defender weapons.

I like the idea...

Yesterday, for about 30 minutes, everyone had access to the Correspondent forums, and the text you have there is a quote from the Combat DEV, with also a note not to post this yet before it hits test (after the mount publish).

Uh this looks like bad news for PvP based riflemen, the idea behind rifle is you kill fast, in prolonged fights you will run out of mind, get aTKA in your face or get apet eating you.

Killing people with doctor buffs and 70% composite is going to be a royal pain.

I don't know, I was enjoying PvP as it was.

Ah! That would be why I never heard about this anywhere up until yesterday. I had no idea about the forum access issues ( this is what you get for trying to read these forums at work while concentrating on six different things at once ). Ooops!

But seeing as it's still here and hasn't been locked or deleted "yet". I haven't been involved in too much PvP as yet, I got involved in a couple of Faction related raids recently and because of my Character Skill level ( Just a Novice Rifleman ) I pretty much got owned most of the time. It was fun but it was all over pretty quickly and I found myself wishing I could have lasted a bit longer. I guess that's up to personal preference though.. true "if" these changes actually go through at all it would take longer to incap / DB others whilst draining our Mind pools quickly but I think I remember reading somewhere that they were introducing Mind Stims? For healing the mind pool which is probably another controvertial topic

I still like the idea as a whole, I think it's a step in the right direction. There wasn't much information there so who knows if as an Elite Profession you will get the Higer Resistance Mitigation skills as you advance towards Master ie: as you become more proficient in your class you not only are able to hammer out more damage on your opponent but avoid taking damage to yourself through experience. That's pretty general but it is just my take on it from what is in that info.
