Thread: Our role in large PvP
DISCLAIMER:: I am, by no means, saying we don't need to be fixed. But, even as a Novice Rifleman, I felt this needed to be addressed.
For those of you who do not like signatures, I am in STORM, and I also enjoy hanging around our base, doing missions, fighting off Rebs, etc.
So I am hanging around, andmiring the heavy armor piercing cannon that is my T21. I not iced tehre are some hostiles approaching. Rebs. I don my composite, and watchj for a few seconds. A commando, and a Doc supporting him. I quickly unload on the doc, bleeding and finishing his mind. I kill him. The commando had already Incapped one of my compatriots, but there is a small group of Stormies chasing him around a bit. Feeling brave, I dart within range of him, firing off a bleed into his sliver of a mind pool. He starts to charge me, letting loose with a flame shot at max range. Thatnk you AIRCARTMAN, lol! I survive, enough to put an end to him with a couple well-placed Headshots.
The purpose of this was not (entirely) to gloat about killing a commando, but in a large PvP situation, if I set back, I noticed I do very well. At least as well as a Novice can do. Granted, Im probably preaching to the choir, but some newer Rifleman might not know this. Don't want them to go all hot-doggin' on a BH, solo, do we?
ALSO! When I finished off the Doc and BH, a Novice marksman with a broken CDEF would have killed me with alucky shot to the head. ![]()
Also, a question.
Since a T21 is Heavy AP, wouldn't it do better than a 200 damage Jawa ion, even if Composite is vulverable? My T21 kinda isn't as good as some of you guys, only 113-330 damage lol, but 400+ with powerup so Im not complainin'

yes, the t21 might be better against composite, but not advanced composit. it depends what the energy resist level is. jawa ion does 1.25 times damage to somebody in composite. t21 will do 1.56 times damage but then you need to modify by the protection amount. say it's 35% which is normal composite, nothing special, then that's 1.02 times damage. given the higher damage range on the t21 you're probably about even or maybe a little higher than even with the jawa ion, however, now suppose they're wearing advanced composite with 60% or 70% energy resist. I think you can see how your t21 is starting to look a little shabby here. at 70% energy protection (it exists, I've seen it) the t21 is doing 0.47 times normal damage, while the jawa ion still does 1.25 times it's normal damage. obviously the jawa ion is going to own the t21.
basically you hit the real trick squarly on the head. At any level, the main tactic for a rifleman is to keep the enemy at range. This is one of the big problems riflemen have with duels. They know where you are and most know to close the range.
In group PvP, use their distractions to your benefit. Engage targets that are fighting someone else. Use cover, pay attention to whats around you. Keep moving. (fire, move until the icon starts to dim, stop, fire repeat)
This works with either the headshot or strafe2 type attacks. In general, if they do not take you out fast, you can do ALOT of damage. It is tough before master, mainly because of the HAM cost to kill one person. (that REALLY needs to be one of our main issues, HAM cost should be scaled in PvP combat just like damage)
Also try to avoid target fixation. Dont stare at the targets HAM bar, and let one of his allies get in close.
That is basically rifle combat in a nutshell. You do not have to be a master for it to work, but at master the damage you can do is much greater.
