Thread: Don't use head shot 3.
I've been reading on the boards that people have been using head shot 3 again, you can use it nothing is goign to stop ya but its a x3 damage but uses 90+ mind to use where as head shot 2 is a 2.5 damage but only uses 60 for your mind costs. The damage to mind cost ratio is still out of whack on this special. Lets do some math:
Lets say that you have a rifle that does 40-400 damage and that magically you hit for that max 400.
Using Head Shot 3 that would be: 400x3=1200 and if its in PvP that is really about 300 damage but at a 90 point cost to you.
Using Head Shot 2 that would be: 400x2.5=1000 and in PvP thats really about 250 at a 60 point cost to you.
So firing HS3 2 times is 180 mind costs to you. Where as HS2 is 120 and with the slim difference in Damage HS2 is an over-all better shot for your mind.
A'rien
less than 3% of the player base is active in PVP
in PVE it is a better shot than HS2
i use it almost exclusively,
when im high on muon or a musicians buff
I don't know where that 3% comes from, the last poll I saw it was closer to 20% of peoples main reason for playing was group PvP. That's their main reason for playing, I'm sure there are a lot more that only PvP from time to time.
I use HS2 in PvE as well, unless I'm one shotting or onhave my mind buffed like madit just makes more sense to me.
76.06% Neutral
13.59% Rebel Covert
7.87% Imperial Covert
1.09% Rebel Declared
1.39% Imperial Declared
2.42% total declared for both sides that means overt PVP. the rest are like me covert to take part of the PVE content of the GCW. i would hazard a guess that if it was pure PVP and no PVE content that 2.42% would be a lot smaller.
pvp in mmorpg have always been and always will be an extremely small minority. but i am sure the space expansion will pull the numbers of overt PVPers up a small bit might even hit a solid 4%. that would be astounding for a mmorpg if it happened. forum posters tend to make up a large portion of the pvpers however so the "voice" of pvp in the forums makes it appear to be larger than it is in reality.
Is this part of the same poll that suggests there are only 28 Master Rifleman on all the servers combined? hehe. j/k
if the results of that poll mean that only 3% of the entire population of a server is Overt at any given time, i believe that. And i think we'll be seeing quite a few more people start PvP'ing in the coming weeks, as characters finish their grinds and can't think of anything else to do ![]()
so the point of the thread is still relevant, pve and PvP, IMHO - is that HS2 is just more efficient than HS3, unless you're buffed or drugged.
make sense?
My numbercame from the poll on the front of the forum that asked why you played SWG. Both are flawed in my opinion. ![]()
I havethree characters, one of these charactersis covert, one is neutral and yetI play mainly for group PvP. One of my characters is a newbie, one is being levelled up and the last one is my finished characterwho is overt.
While I agree that the number of "hardcore" PvPers is very small compared to total players, from years of playing MMOGs I'd say there is a sizeableplayer base that are casual PvPers. If this wasn't the case I wouldn't kill so many people I've never seen before. ![]()
AsJeisynhas already said, the point that HS2 is more efficient than HS3 if you're not buffed is true in PvE and PvP.
I disagree somewhat. Keep in mind that the hit to your mind pool is based not just on the mind cost of the special but also of the weapon, and the actual costs are reduced by your Focus.
About a week ago, I took down a Graul Mauler with stacked bleeds and kiting him spamming HS3. Of course I could do this because using my E11 which does about the same average damage as my Laser but with much lower mind costs. I cannot recall if I was on Muon Gold at the time, but I suspect I was. Heck, go on Muon Gold, and you can spam HS3 with your T21.
So your math makes sense from a certain perspective, but for someone with high Focus (especially if it is enhanced) and a lower mind cost weapon, HS3 is a perfectly good alternative to make up for the lower damage output of the chosen weapon. For instance, my E11 with a base damage of 125 - 250 (without powerups) will do 86%morethe minimum damage and about2.2% more average damage using HS3 than the Laser you mention firing HS2. However, the Laser you mention usually has a mind cost of around 62 where as my E11 has a mind cost of 40. So taking into account the mind cost differences of the two specials, I can get that average of 2.2% more damage at a mind cost of around 10% less per shot using the E11 and HS3.
Therefore, while the comparison you made makes sense when looking at a single weapon, it does not makes sense when you add in other factors. Lower HAM costs of one weapon may mitigate the mind cost of the special and actually allow that weapon to out perform the "better" weapon yet still cost less mind to use. Also, factor in enhancements like Muon Gold, and you may find that HS3 does not even dent your mind pool while the enhancement is in effect. Thus, your statement, though wise in some perspectives, is a bit too broad.
