Thread: Need Rifleman defense Advice

I am a Bounty Hunter and will at least get Master BH and see if pub 8 fixes the problems like they promise it will. I also have Novice Creature Handler and use BE pets that are more like lvl 20+ in stats to support me. Having a pet with 7000 health always makes a nice tank

The main problem is lack of defence. Now I have some decent ranged defense and ranged damage reduction but when it comes to melee the BH totally sucks and is helpless spending most of the time lying on their back. So I need some defence.

Enter the Novice Rifleman. I like this skill tree as the T21 with Heavy AP gives me something to use on Heavily Armored mobs instead of getting -50% damage reduction.

I also got Concealed Shot as its great for taking out high end mobs without being attacked as long as it holds.

I will have enough skill points for 1 tree in Rifleman after I Master Bounty Hunter. AS I see it, it's a choice between Counter-Sniping Techinques and Rifle Special Abilities.

The special abilities would take longer to get since its combat xp but I would get a ranged dizzy and I would get +40 melee defense. But on the other there is Counter-Sniping and I would get +60 Block and +10 for all the status attacks except knockdown.

I am leaning towards Counter-Sniping as Dizzy is a killer so+10 defense is better than 0and +60 Block would at least emliminate the damage from some ranged or melee attacks I believe. Also flushing shot would be good as if I stunned an opponent then I could switch to a BH weapon and use on of it's specials on the target.

So with the above information what would the experts here suggest?

You run into a few problems:

-Without the accuracy from theSniping Tree, your going to miss a lot. I mean, a lot.
-If you get the Rifle Abilities Tree, you'll have good speed with a Rifle, but the attacks in that tree are terrible.
-If you get the Counter-Sniping Tree, you'll have the second best Rifleman move (besides Strafe Shot 2, and the debatable Head Shot 3), Flushing Shot 2. Problem: You wont have any accuracy or speed, so it makes it worthless.

Sorry. =(

I find that /flurryshot2 is exceptionally useful for hunting solo. I drop 4 grauls somewhere around 8 shots with my laser rifle.

Well this is kinda odd. I hardly ever miss with a rifle. Matbe it's because I normally go prone but I can conceal shot mobs without notice for 10 minutes till they are ead and never miss the 2 in a row to be notic3ed from reports. I used flushing shot 1 today and it worked quite well. This was on lvl 54 missions. So accuracy isn't the issue, what I mainly want to know about is the Block Defense. Is it effective for melee and ranged and is +60 noticeable?

I think you will find that you will never use a rifle in pvp unless you master the profession. You will either have too little accuracy to hit anyone in PVP, or your speed will be so slow you will only get off 1 shot for every 5 of theirs, or both if you decide to go up the countersniping line.

There is a reason nobody dabbles in rifleman. The master rifleman is much greater than the sum of its parts and there are easier ways of picking up defenses. I would go pistol for dodge or get the state defence line from the pistol (you get a lot more dizzy and knockdown D for the same skill points. You could also pick up counter attack from carbine and you might pick up a new attack, I think crippling shot is in that tree but I'm not sure. Don't bother with block though, as far as I can tell that is still broken. I still dodge and counterattack more than I block and I don't think I have any dodge or counterattack mods.

If you want the rifle to help you out pve go ahead, but don't expect it to help much in pvp. There are better ways of getting the defenses you want and as a BH you already have the extra speed that makes Carbine worth it.
