i have been working on rifleman now for a while but up till now, i have always been able to stand toe to toe and just outdamage opponents. now, i am working on bh and find i need other skills, strategies. so what is kiting exactly?

Kiting means you run around using things like root, snares etc, to keep at distance to your target (preferable a melee enemy, otherwise range won't help you).
Unfortunately Rifleman only has Kneecap shot, which is a snare, and a really pathetic one.

So for effective kiting you might want to consider getting Crippling shot from Carbineer, or the Stopping Shot from Pistoleer (even though the cooldown on that is quite long)

Look into the carb snare, crippling shot. I think it outweighs stopping shot from pistoleer. Also, don't forget the terrain negotiation bonus you get from scout. Use hills to your advantage.

Kneecap may be the worst snare out there, but it does do something. Learn how to use kneecap shot and you won't have to waste skill points that might not fit your template.

Kneecap shot makes it so most creatures in the game run the exact same speed as you. This creates the perfect kiting analogy where you are running with a kite and not taking in or letting out any string. Put the kneecap shot on when the creature is at 50m and that creature will still be at 50m when it wears off (lag not accounted for). You only need to pick up one other movement hindrance special if you use kneecap shot. A knockdown and delay will give you enough time to wait out the snare resist timer and reaply the kneecap. A root will also work and so will the carbine snare, but you don't need all of them. That being said, the more you have the better you will be able to react to misses and resists.

When you are kiting also keep in mind the creatures are never where they show on your screen. If a large creature like an ancient krayt gets within 25m of you, it would be wise to burst run right away lest ye become krayt food.

Also run with your Gorax shaped kite (and all other kites of similar size) in a large circle around the original spawn point. Sometimes when you take your kite too far away from the spawn it will disapear completely.

negative. stopping shot plants an enemy while cripple kinda slows them down a bit. not by much though and can be countered easily.

do any of you know how much accuracy or whatever is lost when a rifleman is moving around? i remember that pre-cu it seemed that you took a BIG loss in accuracy if you were moving. was that true and is it true now?

movement appears to have no effect now on accuracy for any profession.

so that means that u can run around and shoot as effectively as if u are standing still? nd for that matter, does posture make any difference? if i shoot kneeling ami more effective?

I believe any accuracy benefits from posture are gone now too. Sniper shot requires the prone position. Your action bar regenerates faster in the prone position, and I think it's faster kneeling compared to standing, so there can be a position benefit in that regard, but I believe the accuracy/position bonuses disappeared with the CU.
